I have just this weekend taken out a demo for a test drive since I was strongly considering the purchase of an CC SE however having read many of the entries on this site there apears to be considerable problems with leaky roofs, the electrics in the roof mechanism and suspension. I currently drive a Mazda MX5 (+hard top) and couldn't be without a hood down motor although from what I've read I'm now concerned with respect to such a purchase. Am I correct to be so concerned?

I would say no.... and its me that has had most of these problems.

Me and the wife have a 2.0SE each and hers is one of the later cars and is perfect (touch wood so far). Mine was one of the first and is just BAD. But I am so convinced it is a great car that I am having a new one in 18 days and counting.

Go with your feelings and just buy it.

I would say do not buy one. You can simply see the number of people here that have had problems. Even if you get a good one now (chances are poor) whos to say in 12 months time after using the hood a number of times, faults wont develop then. I had mine in Oct and until now have only had it for 8 weeks. I have now had a full refund, would not touch Peugeot with a barge pole, and have gone else where. Dont risk it yet, give them 18 months to sort it all out and then consider it. Why do you think they are not actively advertising them? You can get something alot better for your money.

OK thats 1 for and 1 against (or should it be 2 for in Robs case!)
I'll have a word with the dealers but I'm still a bit concerned what are the costs of servicing like? when compared to an average £150 6000K service for my MX5?

I know nothing about Mazdas but I'd guess servicing would be cheaper for the Peugeot as it only needs servicing every 20,000 miles compared with 9,000 for most other makes.

If you look at any forum for any product, you'll find that they always carry a level of complaints that is way above the norm for the product. If the product is particularly popular then you'll see an even higher number of complaints and - in turn - the product will look correspondingly worse. This forum is no exception with respect to the CC.

It's not that the car is any worse, less reliable or more problem prone than any other car, it's just in the nature of forums that the most popular topic is almost always guaranteed to be problems, who's had them and who's cured them.

It's a great car. I've had mine since October and loved every minute of driving it. No problems with the roof and no leakage whatsoever, even when I've 'jet-washed' it.

My advice for you is to buy an MX5 or the even more common MG. I enjoy my car's rarity value.

Just buy one.

I've waited over 6 months and had my car for 4 weeks. It hasn't leaked once (touch wood) but you just have to look at the car to see why everyone likes them. There is not a day goes by without me getting admiring glances (I think it's the car and not my handsome profile! :lol ) It's the best car I have owned. I know that because every morning I wake and can't wait to drive it!

There are good points and not so good points but hasn't every car? Just depends what you want. The CC gets a huge recomendation from me though!

Hope this helps

the car looks great but i would not recommend it to you incase you ended up encountering the problems that myself and others have had.

the car looks stunning without a doubt and you may get one without any major faults both initially and over the longer term (rangers might still win the SPL  ).

depending on my phone call with the dealer tomorrow i may reject my CC due to parts availability, if i get it back and it isn't fixed 100% then it will certainly be rejected. my CC is 67 days old and has been at the dealer for 25 days - not something you pay nearly £17,500 for is it ?

derek

YES buy one. I own one of the first cars that arrived in Greece and after occassional problems I wouldn't change it for anything. Why? Because its the most beatiful car I afford to have and because the next car I can easily fall in love with has a great hasma in terms of Price. If you have the money for a better car then go on and buy it. At the end of the day its what YOU like and what YOU can afford. And if you like it so much well then even problems will not be so strong to destroy the love for the car. Ask Rob for that.

I would not buy one, compared to the MX5 you will be dissapointed in most cpmparisons other than the electric roof. The MX5 is still the best convertible for the price, styling, handling, drivability and more importantly reliability. I would go for a new shape MX5 with hard top. Reason i bought the 206CC, for the roof of course!!!

I agree with Vince above.

People don't generally submit posts to tell about the problems they don't have. We have had our car two months and no major problems (yet!!), if it does get a problem then thats part of the joy of owning a car that has a few extra moving parts than the norm.

I feel sorry for the people who have cc's that are real lemons, but I'm sure that the proportion of these cars compared to the number of registered owners is no higher than any other car on the market.

Lets face it you can buy a lovely CC and maybe have a problem or buy a bog standard hatchback and still probably have a problem - The choice is yours ;)!

A suggestion: should we have a section on the forum where people can say if they are pleased with their cars so people new to the forum or are awaiting delivery of their cars have some good news to read?

See ya

I'd say GET ONE!

Ours has not been without it's problems, but none half as bad as the one's mentioned on this site, our roof works like a dream (and it's dry as a bone inside,) and I just love watching people in my rear view mirror point at it and turn green. I also love the fact that when I park it I'm not constantly worried about some idiot with a blade cutting through my cloth roof and making off with the car, steel roof has to be the answer - and as I can't afford and SLK I'll stick with the Peugeot (Auto Express agrees with me as well!)

Get yer order in now, and you'll be smiling all summer.

Thanks everyone!
I understand that most people who post to NG's have some problem or other but I thought this post might bring out a few of those that haven't any problems and are just plain happy to have their CC! (which it has)
I'm also certain that there must be a lot more who either haven't got the time or inclination to say how pleased they are with theirs, but thanks to all those who have given their advice.

My 206cc replaced a MkII MX-5 (no hard top). I have had all of the obvious problems, dodgy electrics, leaking roof, loose engine cover, faulty aircon, yawn yawn, however I am still glad I got one.

I had the Mazda for 2.5 years and wanted something more practical, with similar levels of performance, for similar money but something a bit out of the ordinary i.e. not just a normal hot hatch. I think its fair to say that the Pug fits that spec!

Also I know from owning the Mazda that once the summer comes and the roof goes down everyone on the forum will be raving about them and the problems tend to get forgotten.

H313AGF,

To reply to your question regarding sevice costs, the initial 6000 mile service is free (as it should be, they only check the levels) and the normal service interval is every 20000 miles.

As for problems, I've had the usual torrent of water on my right arm when I brake hard (from the window seal), a dodgy seatbelt and a few minor cosmetic issues. All the problems apart from the roof seal, which was down to its design, have been down to build quality - understandable (if not acceptable) when you consider they've been trying to meet huge demand. I've had the cosmetic issues sorted, a new seatbelt and a modified roof seal fitted and now I'm all set for the summer ;)

I'd say go for it, I've certainly not regretted it.

Hope this helps,
Justin.
