Feb issue of Wheels Magazine has a head-to-head of the CC, New Holden Astra (same as Vauxhall) and Renault Megane.
While I didn't read it thoroughly (my wife was rushing me!) the Astra came in first the CC second and the Megane last (no surprise there).
I'll check the whole article out more thoroughly today. Seeing as it is wheels again I imagine they will be raising issues with the roof again.
To be honest I don't mind the Astra but then again the look of the CC kicks it!

Kirk, I haven't seen the article yet - was it from the same dude who did the review in January and gave it very much a thumbs down? I'll get a copy tonight. Interestingly Driven in the UK did a similar comparison with the Astra coming up on top. Trouble I have is that you're not comparing apples with apples. A fair comparison with the Astra would be the 306 Cabriolet and possibly the Saab. The Astra comes well fitted out and does have a catchless electric hood, but for my money it's still the CC. The Astra is a totally different class of car and I believe seeks to appeal to a very different driver than the CC.

Frosty, I just had a good read of the article (in my lunch break) and I'm not sure whether it was the same guy but it was a fair bit more positive for the CC. The review seemed to give the CC the thumbs on on overall drive & performance and interior/extras, even the roof got a positive comment (with a refer back to the Jan article). From the way it read (to me) the reason they gave the nod to the Astra was because of comfort and space factor when compared to the CC. But as you say you aren't comparing apples and apples in that respect and people looking to buy the CC should not be looking to fit people in the back on any sort of regular basis.
The only real issue I saw was the the Red Book 3-year residual was 59% for the CC and 63% for the Astra and Megane. I don't know how they came up with that!
Overall I got a good impression from the comparison. It is definitely not a fair comparison between the Astra Convertible and the CC but seeing as I rate both I'm happy with the result.

Agree with all that you have said Kirk (bought Wheels on the way home tonight)
Space seemed to be the clincher. I found the article a little difficult to read - it seemed to chop and change. Clearly the CC came up trumps on ride and handling. Guess what, not a mention of leaks. Also surprised though that in the analysis there was no comparison between soft and hard top convertible - one would have thought the security of a hard top convertible would have got some points!
I suppose I am biased, but I really think there's a concerted effort to find fault in the CC. It seems to have so many distinguishing characteristics, yet focus on fault appears to be levelled at the cosmetic level.
I'd love to know where the resale values they got came from considering a CC has never been sold second hand in Australia (as far as I know) and if one has, that's a sample of a few against a back order list of goodness knows how many.
As you and I take delivery of our CC's - be prepared for those who will knock us. The opening line in Wheels said that all three cars were for the hairdresser set. Unfortunately for us (in terms of reviews) they're made for the mass market who prefer a grunt vehicle with no class, over themsleves taking Viagra!

The car reviews on Driven are usually meaningless. The review of the 206CC was blighted by the fact that the car was a standard SE in Apple Green, which was comparing to a fully loaded Astra cabrio in metallic navy blue with fawn leather. No wonder the 206CC was marked down on desirability!
Also, the Driven reviewers only gave the CC 7 or 8 for practicality. Although I would agree the boot is not big with the roof down, it is not impractical otherwise and the security compared to a rag-top is much better. What is really stupid is that this score for practicality was lower than was previously awarded to the Lotus Elise which must be one of the most impractical cars ever!
The best review that I have seen so far is from Autoexpress, which voted the 206CC cabrio of the year in 2001. This compares all cars in the same class, but does also take into account the cost & value for money where the 206CC wind hands down.
Interestingly though, Autoexpress is quoting 3 year residuals for the CC as 50%, which seems low in comparison to other cabrios.

Doesn't rain - huh! We had a monster of a storm in Melbourne last Friday night and Sydney got something like 250mm in 24 hours yesterday.
One reason why there's no leaks is there's virtually no CC's. Only a few have been sold the rest demo's. 1.6's came in end December with a few 2.0's. The main shipment of 2.0's will be here early March, but then again there won't be many.
Cheers

In answer to Kirk -
Was the leak bad - not really. I was already wet from getting in the car ...
I wouldn't call it a waterfall.
Check the alignment of the doors when you get yours, ours look like they are not quite closed. When I can be bothered, I will take back to the dealer to get them "tightended". Hopefully, will fix the leak, and an annoying rattle that has decided to develop on the passenger door.
At least the sun has come out today.
