Rear driver side lights earthing cable

Post by Josh12 »

Hey there guys!
I have recently changed my rear driver side lights and lighting fixture due to rusting of the bulb areas. However, when I fitted my new unit there was no room for the earthing cable (a red cable which wrapped around a screw next to the bottom mid light bulb). The unit is identical in every other way including the model number. Is this something I should be concerned about? Or is it fine to just leave the earthing cable hanging at the back of the unit?
Thanks for all your help!

P.S. This cable may not be the earthing cable, but I can't think of anything else it could be used for?

According to the SEDRE, the RH rear cluster is earthed via pin 3 on the connector to an earthing point just below the LH cluster, so it is unlikely to be an earth. Can you see what the wire connects to inside the cluster?

It's definitely non-standard .. red cable isn't normally associated with earth!

Very true in general, but are there ANY cable colour rules with Peugeot?

I have attached a picture to show how the red wire connected to the bulb plate, it was plugged into a blue bit of plastic that had another wire going into the main set of wires. I'll get a picture of that tomorrow if there is still no answer.
Thanks again for your help!

Apparently I can't put a link on this website; Sorry, I'm still pretty new here! The image is on imgur and has the url end code IYZdbpg.

That is bodgery and not standard. I think someone had tried to "repair" it previously. That's not the unit you are fitting is it?
Cheers Col.

Nope, it was the unit that came with the car. I'm not sure why someone would bodge it though?

No, I can never uderstand why people don't fix things properly either.

Just leave that wire off the new unit.
Cheers Col.
