Antipolution Fault with yellow engine management light

Post by woodyinnarborough »

Good Afternoon everyone!! I have gratefully pulled off quite a lot on very useful tips and tricks over the last few months when dealing with my wife's Peugeot 206CC, 2005 (55). I am now stumped with this one though - help would be much appreciated.

Problem: When starting, Anti Polution warning message appears for a few seconds and the Yellow Engine Management warning light stays light. Although car runs ok, there are occassions when it runs lumpy - usually resolved by simply switching off engine and immediately restarting it. There are other more serious occassions when the engine simply doesn't start at all, and then afteer leaving it for half a hour, it does - these are where my life is being made difficult by the wife....as you can imagine.

Resultions already tried having read various articles:-

Cam shaft sensor replaced
Coil pack replaced
Spark Plugs replaced.....all the above Peugeot Parts from a dealer.

Fuel Tank filled twice with BP 95 super petrol (in case of dirty fuel)

Diagnostics report following:-
P0341 - Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1 or single sensor
FEUL SYS1 = OL
LOAD_PCT(%) = 37.3
ETC (f) = 91
SHRTFT1(%) = 0.0
LONGFT1(%) = 0.8
MAP (inHg) = 13.3
RPM = 949

OK - I have now read that it MAY be the Lambada Sensor(s); when asking Peugeot Spares they quoted me an upstream price and a downstream price. I don't want to get the wrong one. Can anyone advise which (if either) I should now replace to see if this resolves the issue OR any other ideas that I may not have thought/read about.

Many thanks

Woody

Crank trigger can throw up the P0341 code.
Unfortunately your live data is incomplete and not useful without the test conditions being known. If engine was fully warm and idling (going by the RPM Lambda should be closed loop not open. If engine was on overun when snapshot taken, then Open loop would be correct. In your live data was there any o2 data in % or volts?
Cheers Col.

Hi Col

Thanks for your reply and sorry it’s taken so long to get back.

I have tried to re-run the diagnostics, but with only a basic Diagnostic Instrument (sourced off the internet) the additional info you asked for is not reported.

I am not sure what you mean by the engine being in Over run. What I have established, is that after I clear the code, and start the engine from cold, it does NOT trigger the Anti Pollution warning nor the yellow Engine Sign. I have left the engine running to get to normal operating temperature and then switched it off and started it again repeatedly, and still no fault is shown. It is ONLY when I return to a COLD engine say after a couple of hours that after starting the AP and Engine Signs come on again.

The car went through its MOT and the CO2 reading were near Zero, well within limits – if that helps.

Any further suggestions in addition to what I have already done in my original post gratefully received. As I said, I have read that others have replaced the Lambada Oxygen Sensor, but not sure which one they refer too (upstream or downstream), and as both quite expensive (Peugeot supplied as are all other parts as folk recommend with this issue) I want to get it right first time!

Cheers

Woody

Refusing to start when warm is a classic crank sensor problem.

Lambdas are likely to be Bosch parts .. So look at their universal ones which you splice into the existing cable ... And no soldering. There are still about £50 each but that's cheaper than the complete item. It might be the LS615 as most cars seem to use this ...

Having said that they can be a pita to remove from the exhaust!

Even using PP2000 it wouldn't tell me which one ... But a new exhaust fixed it ... Cracked centre silencer box from speed hump.

Live data would.

Thanks Col for that; well it has to be said it has started every time since I have replaced the crack sensor, it's just this blessed Antipollution Warning light that's getting on my nerves. If only there was a way to de-activate it - my MOT report says I'm within limits so I don't care what Peugeot says!!!! GRRRRR.

Clear the P0341 fault and re scan & see if anything else appears.
Cheers Col.

I'm new to this forum so apologies in advance! Having replaced the post-cat O2 sensor, I'm now looking to replace the pre-cat one. Problem is, I'm not sure where to locate it on my 2.0 petrol engine. Any advice any pictures would be extremely welcome!!!
