Hi guys
I'm thinking of buying a 206cc, missus already has one, dead impressed with it (all except the dash) and I like the idea of convertible. So I'm down to the 206cc and the Golf MK3.5 Convertible. I'm leaning more towards the 206cc, primarily because
a. You get a shedload more with the 206cc, AC, steering controls etc etc.
b. The MK3.5 is basically built on a really old and tired platform and even older and tired'er engine, so despite having less power than a 2.0 206cc, it has even worse fuel economy. The only real pro's of the Golf is the roof system is supposed to be pretty bullet proof and easy to work on.
I've spotted a HDI, red, advertised as in mint condition with a 102k miles on. What would that be realistically valued at? He said he's negotiable on the price, but I want to see what people think.
Also are there any issues I should know about with the HDI? I know they're turbo so I guess I need to double and triple check the service history.
What's an 05 HDI with 102k miles worth?

90% of engine problems with 206s seem to be diesels. My view is that a 1.6 petrol is the one to go for. It's got plenty of power. Reckon to change the timing belt and water pump and maybe a set of plugs and you should be good to go.

2.0 16v is much more lively than the 1.6 16v and easier to work on, even has a proper oil filter that's easy accessible instead of that ridiculous cartridge thing that's hard to get too. MPG is decent too.
Downside is insurance premium for the younger generations.
Who said the cc roof was hard to work on? It's so simple once you get your head round how it all works

I've just bought an 04 1.6 petrol with 120k on it, 12 month ticket, lovely nick bar a back box (£35) and a tyre near the limit. I have a 2.0L Transit and a 1.3 Fiesta.
The cc awakens the hooligan in me that has been dormant for 25+ years - it is incredible fun to drive. I'm going to have to battle my wife, and daughter (23, hence the 1.6 for insurance) to get in the flaming thing.....
I dread to think what a 2.0 litre would do for my adrenaline levels
