Well now I have decided to get a new CC I have been meaning to try some Rain-X on the car. Had a nasty incident on Melanies Puma when the heated front screen melted it and it stuck to the wipers and made visibility impossible
As soon as I have managed to get a dry speel I will apply it and let you all know.

It puts a protective coating on your glass that makes thewater just run off in sheets. This keeps your glass clear and (not recommended for legal reasons) you can drive with the wipers off even in bad rain and still see clearly.

I saw it in Costco last week around £6.50. You get 2 bottles, i think one was a glass cleaner and one was the other stuff you put on the window.
I was gonna buy it but thought I would wait to see if you could use it safely as I had read Rob's post from about 2 weeks ago mentioning it.

I have used it once and found it to be very good BUT it wears off very quickly.
I am considering joining costco, was in Edinburgh Branch the other day on a visitors only pass - do you think its worth it ? I did think some of the aftermarket car stuff like rainex was cheaper but £30 to join....

Mark,
My membership is £20 per year (trade member). Whether it is worth it or not depends on if you will visit it often enough over the year and what you buy to get your money back.
When I bought my house last year, I bought some electrical items from Costco.
As an example, I bought 3 items costing £520, but if I had bought them from a normal High Street store it would have cost around £710.
So .... basically you only often have to buy one decent priced product to get more than your money back right away.

I was a bit upset at no Peugeout Points (or Air Miles - my other little collection).
But still worth it as I have saved a fortune. Just my pressure washer this year saved my £170.00. I think a few others went after I mentioned it and bought one.
RAIN-X
======
I have put it on the car now and have tried to melt it on the rear screen, its fine. Forgot where my wiper switch is now
I would certainly recommend it.

Its still working at the moment but has only been on for a week (700 miles).
I drove to Scotland in some really bad weather and only used the wipers twice all the way there. 70mph without wipers has to be seen to be believed.
As for people worring at Costco membeship price - if in the first year of membership you decide its not wothit they will refund the entire fee.

I had rain-x on my old car and it lasted about 6 months. The area where the wipers don't reach becomes dirty and grimed up, but a quick wipe with a cloth brings it back up to that rain-x magic.
I don't know if putting it on the new spec cars will effect the auto wipe, I presume the sensor is somewhere on the screen. But with rain-x you don't really need a wiper especially at speed as the rain turns into large globules on the windscreen and then goes flying off into the cars behind.

I bought some Rain-X from Costco and haven't used it due to post about heated screens melting the stuff. I particularly wanted it for the rear due to no wash wipe but I may have a go now.
As for Costco - Wouldn't be without it. Can't tell you how much money I have saved over the years. Well worth the membership fee! The food is fantastic. The goods are all good quality makes (no cheap and nasties!)and if you get faulty goods they will exchange there and then no quibble.
