206 GTI 180 Cranks but wont fire.

So here it is, My dad is converting a 206 GTI 180 in to a rally car.

The problem is it wont start. He parked it up, a month went by, he boosted the battery with a charger.

• Car Locks and Unlocks from both keys

• Car will crank but does not fire

• Fuel pump pumps but sparks not getting wet

• BSI has kept the car VIN so isn't damaged

• Headlights do not work from stalk, wiper stalk totally unresponsive

Was battery removed to do this? Was the correct process followed if so?
If battery was left on car, Was correct process followed?

Just because VIN no: is still recognised, BSI could still be spiked if you didn't follow the guidelines.
Have you tried to get codes? Is the MIL on?
If it's not BSI, it sounds imobiliser related (part of which includes the BSI)

I have an 04 Plate 206 gti 180 - driving fine lights working wipers, then all of a sudden i broke down .... i pulled over to the side of the road lifted the bonnet - nothing wrong there all belts and that looked ok, - So i sat there for a good half hour 45 mins scratching my head and trying to get it to start but i got nothing - i tried everything i could think of took the battery off let it settle back on again still nothing - anyways an hour or so went passed and i managed to get myself a tow home or so i thought - cause after tying both cars together and getting ready to set off - my wipers and lights all of a sudded just decided to stop working altogether...... i thought thats odd one minute they were fine and then NOTHING??? - So i thought i cant get it towed home now - so left it there and went back for my car the next day.upon getting back to my car i tried again to see if i had any luck getting it to start and checked the lights and the wipers which i have to say still did not work at this point...- upon getting my car home i stuck it on my OBD2 fault code meter i bought off ebay a few days ago for less than 20 quid , and found that i had a fault with my crank angle sensor ( my FAULT CODE was po336 for my Gti180 but could be similar code as there are different codes in the book that comes with it meaning it can be either sensor A -Or B , dependant on which one has failed or most likely broke in your car...)-....Well i managed to locate this with help of a friend ( you need to take the battery and battery box out and feel down on top of the crankcase you need to put your hand at a slight angle to get to it bit if you look from the right hand wing looking diagonally into the engine and crank you should see the bolt, my advise is to be carefull taking out the bolt as its quite fiddly to get at with big hands- it has a small black plug and is a 10mm bolt holding it in place- with a u_shaped end for the bolt - Jayar Autoparts sold me one for around 17 quid.I had to order it in but got it by the afternoon so not bad - - but after that Everything worked how it should GoodLuck - another thing if you have the enging management light or Anti pollution fault come up on the dash then you can reset this but turning off the ignition,press and hold the small right hand peg near rev counter - Still holding the pin in - turn on the ignition again untill you see a small spanner counting backwards from 10 - 0 ... once it has reached zero continue to hold it in and turn on the car - both the engine management light and anti pollution fault will now be fixed..... Darren ... nice tale ... but we don't have the 180bhp engine ... the website name might be a hint .. this is for the 206 Coupe Convertible .. 206CC ... not the hatchback. Plus that post was from 2013!!

And the bit about the button and MIL light .. not correct! To do that you have to clear the fault using a diag system and OBDII may NOT work 100% ... you need an EOBD compatible system. he fact it was telling you it could be one of two sensors is a hint .. you only have one!



And please put some carriage returns in so it's readable!!!

Yeah fair shout,post was from ages ago and a bit long winded there lol,first time I've posted so got carried away I was just referring to the post at the top about the wiper stalk and lights not working....

Had the same trouble with mine so could be the sensor not reading g the right signals if it's breaking down. The way I explained how to reset the engine management light does actually works on the 180 for gettin rid of the anti pollution fault not sure about the 206cc like you say mate I'm in the wrong department here ..

Maybe it will come in handy to somebody out there having car troubles , I did manage to purchase the right ObD2 fault reader for this car but only came up with two codes on mine 1 throttle position sensor and 2 the crank angle sensor, both have been changed and everything working as it should do but that still didn't get rid of the engine management light on my 180 only reset the sensor codes...

I reset that myself using the service spanner button by pressing the millimetre and holding it whilst turning on the ignition and it counted down to zero _ Light went out and Anti pollution fault cleared -
