New CC on the horizon.

Post by Stewface »

Hi,
My wife has just brought a 206cc 1.6 auto 2007 in Blue, from our next door neighbour who is moving to Malta, at the end of Jan. Car looks all okay and only has 25k on the clock, in the service book there is only 3 stamps, but it looks like services are due every 2 years, the last one being 2013. So service seems to be due.
Can you tell me the requirement for the Cambelt to be changed or at least best practice for Cambelt interval?
Is there anything to look out for?
I think it may only have one remote key, are they expensive or difficult to get another remote key cut/coded?

Welcome to the forum Stewart. Cambelt should be renewed at 10 years old or 80k whichever comes first so you should be ok for at least another year yet. I change the engine oil and filter every 12 months or so on ours. Always use a genuine filter as some aftermarket ones have been known to collapse resulting in low oil pressure. Brake fluid should be renewed every 2 years. It is a 1 minute job to check the pollen filter. Only use Peugeot or Bosch sparkplugs as Pugs don't seem to like NGKs. Careful if you renew the air filter as the screws are easy to lose. If you don't get the filter housing back together perfectly you risk ingress of water in wet weather and the filter then gets soaked. If it's running ok then I tend to stick to oil, oil filter, & hydraulic fluid renewal at service time. Don't know how much a new remote key would cost as we've never needed to buy one but I guess about £150 from a main dealer. You'll need your keycode card. Before using the roof I'd recommend reading the owners manual. Most roof problems are self-inflicted by new owners who don't bother. Roof operation is pedantic and must be strictly adhered to. We only operate the roof with the engine running. Good luck with the"new" car.

One other thing. The springs holding the wiper blades to the screen are very strong. Our car is kept in our garage and I always lift the blades off the screen and leave them up when putting the car away. Otherwise they "flatten" out and need replacing frequently to stop them graunching. It has become a habit over the last 10 years and I don't even have to think about it now. New wiper blades for the 206cc are not cheap.

Still think 10 years or 80K is a lot for a belt .. and having been bitten by one that failed, I now tend to err on the side of caution and would change it earlier if I didn't know the car's history.

And often it's not the belt ... it's the tensioner or idler bearings ..

They don't work properly when they get like this ..

Originally Alfa Romeo quoted 6 years or 72K for my car .. this belt was at 5 years and 73K .. but since then they have reduced it .. to 3 years and 36K ... we guess originally it was to keep service costs down for fleet operators and most cars will have been moved on at 3 years and probably under 72K. It was when it started to bite 2nd owners .. and lots of complaints to Alfa Head Office ...

Thanks for the Welcome and all the info.
I've been working in the motor trade for 25 years, so know a reasonable about the basics of cars, but I have no experience of Peugeots, or any French style cars. Jap cars are what I know most about, so this is a new foray for me, and I may need some help.
