See 1.6 running problems and 1.6 wheel trims in the 'Other problems'
We also had a knocking under the cover over the instruments. They solved this, but then left a rattle further down - Loose screw or clip? Further attempt did not solve it and their is a mark/scratch on the back of the lens now!
Also, the roof to glass rubber over the drivers door has water poor in near the roof clip.
In repairing the dent they put in the drivers door, they have poorly refitted the rubber seal between the glass and the top of the painted part of the door - Screams and screeches when wet as the glass goes up and down.
Drivers door glass overlaps rear window pillar/ roof rubber seals. Door was adjusted as per Peugeot tech video and problem seemed to have been resolved. However, has started doing it again, probably due to pulling of door to remove dent, and creaking from top corner of door glass is deafening - I doubt if any spray lubricant will solve it! Have taken photos today with a copy of a dated mag next to it as proof, as it never does it when they have it!
I am willing to let them have a look at it, but on my terms. I want compensation regardless of the outcome, agreed befrore they have it, and to know what they will do further should they not succeed!
I don't trust the supplying dealer an inch. When we bought the car, I went down to London and left a deposit. As it was a cancelled order and I wasn't having to wait the 16-20 weeks, they insisted on full list price, even if we didn't p/ex our old car. A day or so later, they came up with some story that the car had got to go back to Peugeot - If they sold it to me, Peugeot would fine them £1000 and they wanted me to pay it if I had the car! I mentioned solicitors and they gave in!
If only the two dealers involved were as easy as yours!

(PS - GAZ, How long have you had your car, how long are you having to wait for the replacement and are you having to make any contributions? Thanks Eye See)

Eye See,
And I thought I had had a rough ride!! I have had it just over a month and have done 1200 miles (approx). There has been no mention of any contribution and as I said above they have given me a Windstop (circa £180). The dealer said a couple of weeks if one was available - but await confirmation. I have to put my rejection in writing but understand that the reorder is progressing.
Cheers,
GAZ

Three more things I forgot to mention:
1. Gearbox developed a leak with less than 1000 miles on the clock. Box removed and refixed.
2. Coolant leak repaired at six months.
3. Nothing to do with Peugeot & their dealers - N/S/F wing replaced after a drunken skinhead caved it in while my wife was buying a pay & display ticket in Town Centre! Happened just over 100 yards from cop shop but it took them 5 days to come and take a statement! Unfortunately, the b****** evaded the CCTV cameras. If I knew who did it I would borrow GregS's machine guns!
Apart from the gearbox leak, we did what the supplying dealer said and left the 'teething problems' to the six month service. 3 months later, here we are!
If anyone else finds themselves with a growing list, I would NOT recommend waiting the 6 months. Get it in and see if they can sort it. If they can't I would say you have a better chance of rejection or replacement than we have 9 months down the line.

(PS Just gone to put the car in the garage and guess ..... it took 2 attempts to restart. Problem definitely unchanged by anything they have done to it!)

Supplying dealer phoned today. Got them to put in writing what they said. Second paragraph of letter reads:
"In respect of your request for compensation I am unable to offer anything as Peugeot do not recognise the need to do so."
No mention either of a refund or replacement so its back over to Black Horse to see what they come up with!
I'd like to hear what others make of this attitude!

(Its about time I named the dealers - Car supplied by Warwick Wright Brent Cross at Cricklewood and maintained(!) by Camdens of Bedford - I await the writs!)

when i tried to get a free replacement my dealer ended up telling me that i was free to take my case to peugeot but he personally told me that i would be lucky to get anywhere near the £600 cost he was offering - eventually got him down to £300

Just to reiterate no mention at this stage of me having to pay anything. When I have the replacement in my garage I will talk to the General Manager about the problems of others to find out if he is being particularly generous or his colleagues at your dealership(s) are being particularly mean. Also may give an insight into PUG policy versus individual dealership policy.
EyeSee, I wonder if part of the problem maybe that your car is a bit older than mine and therefore the loss to the dealer would be greater in terms of resale value. But its still not acceptable!! Will keep you posted.

The time elapsed is possibly our downfall.
As I have said previously, I would NOT recommend waiting for the 6 month service as Warwick Wright Brent Cross suggested. This is probably a ploy to avoid outright rejection or replacing the vehicle!
Anyway, have faxed a letter to Black Horse and they have promised a letter in reply by fax today. I won't hold my breath as I doubt if they will want to pick up the cost of any recompense!

if the part of the dealer being mean was in response to my post as i had to pay £300 for a replacement then that is far from true.On 2002-07-05 08:34, GAZ wrote:

my dealer had to buy me a brand new car and fit the same extra's once more and got a second hand one back in it's place that was nearly 4 months old.
this resulted in effect, an extra 4 months warranty, 4 months road tax, 4 months AA cover and the premium of having a 02 reg against a 51 reg - the latter being worth far more than £300 on it's own.
i also had 2500+ free miles in a CC, and a further 3000 effectively free miles in......
peugeot 106 quicksilver (4 days)
rover 75 V6 (11 days)
rover 45 (21 days)
peugeot 307 2.0GLX (28 days)
although i didn't make my feelings obvious at the time to the general manager - arnold clark gave me an excellent deal all round at great expense to them and the rejection process was handled quickly and professionally with negotiation in a single one hour meeting.
that's what i call good service.
incidentally the 307GLX i got was only 4 weeks old and i was given it when i said i didn't want the rover 45 while i waited on the replacement. i asked for a high spec 307 or 406 and he let me pick what one i wanted.

Derek,
Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. However, personaly, I would not be happy to part with additional cash.At the end of the day you bought a car that was substandard and I therefore think its the dealers job to replace it with what you paid your money for in the first place. I agree they make a hefty loss, but if you stack that against all the profit they make in general, I for one would not feel particularly sorry for them.
Cheers,
GAZ

No luck with Black Horse, taking it straight to Peugeot.
At the end of the day, it is them that have manufactured and supplied the car so any defects are ultimately of their creation, not the dealers. Surely, Peugeot should fund via the supplying dealers any compensation, refunds or replacements? I am sure that at the end of the day this is what happens.
However, Peugeot appear to hide behind their dealers. In our case, Peugeot should either reject the works Camden have carried out and punish them accordingly or admit that Warwick Wright would have been told by Peugeot Technical to try the same things.
We should not be made to start at square one and, if we agree to take it back to Warwick Wright, that it be acknowledged that it would be the 4th visit to a dealer for the same reasons, (5th visit including gearbox on and off).
Noone buying a new car would find this acceptable without some form of compensation!

But Peugeot have the law behind them. Your contract is with the dealer as you bought the car from them (or your finance company did), not direct from Peugeot. Its like if you buy a pair of pants with a hole in from M&S you take them back to M&S and not to the manufacturer. Both Rob and Derek negotiated rejection with the dealer, I doubt very much you'll get any joy with Peugeot. Good luck though.

you haven't got a hope with peugeot.
just look at 2 recent copies of auto express featuring a 206 & 307 and that tells you peugeot are unlikely to replace your car or even offer any decent type of compensation.
gaz,
paying £300 was seen by everyone including myself to be more than acceptable when the rejection took place.
the difference in value between my 1st and 2nd CC far exceeds £300. i was also offered a full cash refund which i could have walked away with there and then but chose a replacement for £300.
also they had only made 2 attempts to repair the leaks on my car - they were legally entitled to try again if they disputed my rejection. the car was also repairable and not a lost cause.
btw - it's up for sale at £16,488 if you want to buy it
