Re: Airbag light - Oh no here we go again
It is early days but 'wiggling' the orange plug on the pretensioner may have solved the problem. No air bag warning light since last post. There is plenty on the web about the green plug but nothing about the other end. Just got to sort out the seatbelt warning light which I hadn't noticed was not on. There is a white plug with only wires in next to the troublesome green one which I assume must be something to do with it.
PS Recaro do a kit of plugs, wires and resistors to put the air bag warning light out. £30.

Re: Airbag light - Oh no here we go again
My mates did this with a 2.0l Cortina. They clamped off the rear brakes because of a fault or something leaking. They later stacked the car going 60 round a steep bend. Went into a ditch and cart wheeled out of this deep ditch to face oposite direction but looking like it had been perfectly parked beside the road.Capncol wrote:!
In my mind it is no different to clamping off a brake pipe because you have a leaky wheel cylinder!?

Airbag warning light still off so I must have cracked it.One further tip.Having forced the seatbelt pretensioner cover open to wiggle the orange plug it did not return fully to its original shape, still slightly open. I jammed it shut with a wedge between the cover and the seat and warmed it with a hair dryer. After cooling it stayed in its original state.

Capncol can be abrupt but he does give much of his own time in helping so many people on this forum. Capncol is likely to be the poster that helps resolve problems but he is professional so will not give instructions which would be illegal or dangerous.
If it costs to much to sort out then sorry, the car is for scrap or find another source for your problems.
Capncol is stating in other words you will get no help for this sort of thing on this forum.

Well said tenpole.
rusty196500, this is a forum for Coupe-Convertible owners.
We don't patronise people so don't be so rude. Try elsewhere if you want to compromise safety.

And when you have an accident and the airbags fail to deploy ... then your insurance is invalidated ...rusty196500 wrote:well if you won't then don't and save your comments for someone that ask to be patronised
Your choice .. just don't ask people with a brain to help ...

Five months on and no airbag warning light.Wriggling the orange plug seems to have cured the problem so no need to go down the resistor route and upset people. The whole system is far too sensitive and should have been redesigned years ago.My point about bucket seat fitting, where you have to use a resistor is still valid.

But it's pretty much the same on all cars now ... the plugs shouldn't be loose but if people will fiddle, then the clips and fit is compromised what they bend the plastic (aimed more at a previous owner)jeffluent wrote:Five months on and no airbag warning light.Wriggling the orange plug seems to have cured the problem so no need to go down the resistor route and upset people. The whole system is far too sensitive and should have been redesigned years ago.
Bucket seats are primarily for racing ... where airbags aren't necessary. Fit them to a road-car and you need to disclose them as a modification along with the airbag disabling. Insurance companies will then "adjust" your premiums accordingly and may even place conditions on paying out. You will be expected to take the risk, not them. They may even decide you are a high risk and not cover you ... and being refused insurance is not something you want to do .. no-one else will touch you either!jeffluent wrote:My point about bucket seat fitting, where you have to use a resistor is still valid.

Re: Airbag light - Oh no here we go again
I don't believe it. MOT due in a couple of days and the bl.... airbag light has come on. Tried wiggling the orange plug on the passenger side pretensioner which seemed to cure it before but to no avail,Resoldered the joints (where the plug used to be) also to no avail. Here is the thing I would like explaining. I tested the voltage between the joints of one of the yellow wires and the green and yellow wire,2 point something, and while the multimeter was connected the light went out!
