Hi,
I am looking for a pair of roof bars for the wife's motor. Any ideas where I can start looking.
Cheers
Mark

Re: Roof bars
Cheers you have answered the question. You can't put roof bars on a 206cc. We wanted to attach 2 kayaks on top of her 206cc and tow it behind our motorhome.

Re: Roof bars
Assuming you have a licence that allows you to tow (“B+E” entitlement = passed test pre 1/1/1997, and you haven’t been disqualified since that date for any period, or have taken trailer test )
You might want to check the towing capacity of your motorhome. 206cc is about 1200kg Kerbside plus the weight of any trailer it is on (and kayaks)
If you are towing on an "A" frame, it is a mine field. It must have a proper overrun braking facility to meet the specified 50% braking efficiency required for a trailer as well as trailer lighting and reflective triangles.
Most motor homes aren't rated to tow as much weight as the commercial vehicle they are derived from. New shape FWD Transit motorhomes are about 1000kg limit depending on who built the body.
Sorry if you already know this, but a huge amount of people are ignorant of it.
I can give you more specifics if you like

Re: Roof bars
Hi Colin,
We are pulling the wife's 206cc with a r-vision trail lite American rv and I have had a A-frame professionally fitted. Was hoping we could carry the kayaks on top of the cc. Would it work if I put some high density foam on top of the cc and attached them with straps through slightly open windows ?
Cheers

Re: Roof bars
Given the problems people have with the roofs on these cars, I wouldn't put anything on top. If it was safe to do so, there would be a roofrack available. A better idea would be to put them in or on the motorhome.
You can get boot racks for the 206cc. Could you somehow fix them to one of those?
Going back to towing, Has the "A" frame got a braking system? If not, it's illegal as any trailer over 750KG has to have brakes (a car on an A frame is classed as a trailer) Also, as I said earlier, check your licence and maximum tow weight of you RV.
If you have a B+E licence, then you are only allowed up to 8.2 tonne MAM
(Max authorised Mass) Which is the all up weight of the loaded RV + any towed load. Your car is going to be 1.2 Tonnes empty, so that means the max weight including fuel, passengers, and any load in your motorhome mustn't exceed 7000kg- Less if you have any load in the car. All the weights must be within the motorhomes plated limits.

Re: Roof bars
My motorhome had a roof rack on the top and ladders to get to it, maybe you could get that set up and strap them to that?
