New 206cc owner looking to repair and improve!

Post by Tom2014 »

Hi!

Got my 206cc a few months ago and I've had a few problems come up.

Super squeaky breaks and a rumbley exhaust. I took it to a repair garage (sister company of the dealer that I got it off) and he apparently he welded/out a solution on my exhaust and fitted new break pads.

Wasn't long before I had troubles again. Is there anything I'm missing?

Also, absolutely love my 206's and I'm chuffed I got a good deal on a convertible one. But is there anything I should be looking out for?

Finally, I do wanna spend a bit of money on this over a period of time, so if anyone has any tips or recommendations, I'd greatly appreciate it! I'm looking to do a bit to all of it really, engine, interior and bodywork really!

Cheers!

Hi Tom and welcome.
Exhaust welding never seems to last. Time for new system maybe?
Squeaking brakes- Use good quality pads and use a ceramic grease if required.
Cheers Col.

Usual 206 stuff, but with the CC the roof and associated electrics!

On ours it's lower wishbone ball-joints which wear quickly. PLus today's parts tend not to last as long .. rubber parts perish really quickly. Get the GTI version if you need to change the arms as the bushes are stiffer. I've tried standard ones, and they simply don't last. I have two to replace next week.

That also means tracking .. you can scrub a front tyre really quickly with worn ball-joints.

Avoid NGK plugs ... use Bosch ... as some NGKs interfere with the coilpack causing it to fail/misfire. I've got Super 4's in ours and they are good .. multiple electrode type of plugs.

Rear calipers can stick ... and don't tighten the bleed screws to much ... or they part company with the caliper (don't ask me how I know!)

If it nearing 8 years old, get a new cambelt kit and water pump. You do not want to see the mess a failed belt causes to a twin cam engine.
