overheating 206

Post by mcflurreh »

Hi guys and thanks for the website :)

I have a problem with overheating and I hope for some help :)

My 206 is is a w reg (2000)
Just out of the blue it started. It's been in the garage to have a couple things replaces including radiator and thermostat! But still it's overheating.

It's perfect when idle but as soon as I got 50mph it moved up above 90. Once I hit 70 mph it's nearly touching the red but as soon as I slow down the temperature drops also. I'm stumped tbh.

I've spoke to many mechanics and most have provided different answers :(

The car has also had a 'sniff test' done. But that came back clear.

Please, please any help welcome. And please any questions then just ask

Firstly, is it actually overheating? Have you verified with an independent temp guage? It could be just the sender or guage faulty as you've ruled out the normal suspects. Could poss be the waterpump impeller broken up, but I would check that it is actually overheating first.

What have they said?

First of all heed Capncol's advice.

But then see http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15360

At 14 years old the car should have had its timing belt renewed several years ago, and it is generally recommended to renew tensioner and idler pulleys at the same time, along with the water pump.

My money would be on the water pump being at fault, and I would replace that along with the timing belt and pulleys while you are at it, unless the latter items have only recently been renewed.

Sorry for slow reply.

I thank you both ::)

It's NOT overheating. Just the temp just keeps rising. It has went into red couple times with stop light flashing.

Mechanics have said wiring looms, heater, matrix.

Sorry I'm not a car person though. Maybe something I should have learned :p

Replace the temperature sensor on the thermostat housing ... make sure it is the same colour as the one already on there, etc.

Has the cooling systembeen flushed before and the coolant replaced? What colour is the header tank and water? Gungy brown?

Hi guys and thanks again for the help. Just to recap.....

Can was getting to temp (90) no but as soon as got to between 50 &70 the temp would goto just before red.

Changed thermostat and radiator still the problem was there.
So we flushed and back flushed then filled with coolant and changed the temp sensor. Seems to be good for now.

Going to let it cool down before I take the trip home 220 miles away. So will repost once I get there.

Ps. Also changed the relys for the fan. Which now works better.

Okay well the temp is so much better now.

At 70 mph the temp goes to just over 100 then the fan kicks in and that brings the temp down again. Who's would seem to be all correct again?

Thanks all again for the help :)

Normal airflow at 70 should keep temp down. Fans are designed for when you are stuck in traffic.

There is still something not right ...
