Hello
Hope someone could help me..
I have 206cc 72000 miles. 2.0 petrol RFN
almost a year ago a have done service in Halfords and during that service cam belt was changed. Next day I was on my way somewhere and after about 100 miles antipollution came on and EML. (non flashing) there was no other indication of any problem. no loss of power nothing.
Anyway after coaming back to Halfords there is only one code coming up P0170 (even on planet in nothing more) they have change coil pack . both oxygen sensors. MAP sensor, clean body throttle check EGR valve, check for air leaks in intlet manifold, injectors checked, there never was misfire, but this problem is stil coming back and its always after more or less 100 miles on motorway (basically high speed), I didn't notice any engine problems no jiggering or loss of power no idle problems . Ones I Have done test and speand like 300 miles driving only in town (no motorway or high speed involved) and the was no problem. Frankly aftyer spending all this money I'm wondering if there is way to fix this or I should just used to it ?
And to me sure there is no other problems... no other codes... Its only P0170. Maybe the only odd thing is that on simple diagnostic tool freeze frame shows what was speed and engine rpm etc on moment of fault but on planet it shows that it was 0mph 0rpm -40C coolant temp..
I was thinking about Peugeot dealer but first they told me its minimum 3 hours to check this out (3 x 140£) and they didn't want to even listen when the problem occurs because according to person from desk (there is no way to talk to mechanic) it must coming ON on switching on engine.
Maybe someone could advice ???

Re: P0170 No loss of power.
Hi and welcome
Secondly, recheck all air pipework for splits, loose clips or cracks. Check for loose or dislodged electrical plugs, don't forget to check temp sender plug. What make of spark plugs did they fit? If NGK, change them for Bosch super 4's
Firstly don't go to a bike shop to get your car serviced.soferek wrote: Maybe someone could advice ???

Re: P0170 No loss of power.
Thank you for replay. I didn't know that halfords autocetres are bikes shops. I didn't go to dealer because they first don't listen and second every discussion start with money and altitude "r u sure you can afford it"
Anyway parts are always from peugeot dealer. Even spark plugs. And halfords autocentre just to fitting if that makes sense. I have been in few electricians as well all wires checked no leaked drop of anything . No air leaks etc. and only this code p0170 and only on high speed . Which is strange

Re: P0170 No loss of power.
Sorry about the Halfords dig, but one of my customers is the service manager at the local Peugeot main dealers (don't ask) and she reckons they get 2-3 pugs a month that the aforementioned bike shop has managed to bugger up somehow or other (usually corrupting the BSI by not following the battery disconect procedure) So I don't have much faith in them and put them on a par with certain fast fit tyre shops of ill repute.
Back to your code
You basically have air fuel ratio out of limits, hence checking for air leaks etc: Faulty Temp sender or wiring will make ECU think car is running too cold or hot, so will set fuelling accordingly. If car is hot & ECU thinks its cold, it will be running too rich.

Re: P0170 No loss of power.
I forgot to mention that..
Car had temperature sensor changed as well...
I must say I have unpleasant conversations with Peugeot dealer. Mostly ppl from behind the desk because they treat u like they know all and for sure fault doesn't come up only on high speed. And frankly u have no chance to talk to mechanic. and obviously ppl from behind desk don't bother to pass msg through. And I heard so many times "R u sure want to do this because its cost this much" But probably its only my personal experience.
Anyway never said that Halfords is the best but I will say that they friendly... anyway this problem haven't been solved for long time and I guess they kind of give up . but frankly my main problem is to prove to Peugeot dealer that this fault is appearing only on high speed after about 100 miles of driving. because none of them will drive for so long after clearing the fault. And It feels like I will be just paying 140£ every time I will want to talk to them lol.
Obviously I do understand I will probably have to end up in Peugeot dealer. Maybe you could suggest any approach for them not to be treated like "shit" ?
Is there is any way to talk directly to mechanic ?

Re: P0170 No loss of power.
Go to a good independent as you will be able to talk to the owner / head mech, and explain your issues. They should be able to look at live data and maybe that will show up something.
Independents stand or fall on their reputation whereas main dealers have constant work through new car sales / service. Most main dealers won't let customers talk to their workshop for some reason.
Unfortunately if you have had the problem that long, and you are sure the points I raised have been checked and re-checked along with the other items you say have been checked, then it will be almost impossible to do an *armchair diagnosis*
This fault could even be at ECU level- something like a dry solder joint opening up with high under bonnet heat.
I would get live data first (I will post what it can do if you like as I'm just about to sort a 307HDI that's in limp) You could also send the ECU off to someone like BBA reman and get them to hot soak test it, and see if that shows anything up. Whatever you do, I would now go to a different garage. Where are you? Someone here may have a recommendation.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: P0170 No loss of power.
Dear Capncol
Obviously only 100% sure I can be about parts I have bought and been changed... How has been cheeking for leaks carried out I have no idea. I probably could show you life data but don't really know if u need video or just picture from planet??? But to be honest (no offence) I prefer go to as u said good mechanic who will be able to actually look at this car. Because over internet you cannot diagnose much as you said. Specially than I'm not mechanic. And probably more than half of questions I will not be able to answer.
Maybe you know some good garage or diagnostic garage which can at least diagnose problem in Southampton Area
One more think. Car Just had been done MOT... and everything was ok including exhaust/fumes test. Which shows on paper that is in range.
