I drove past a 'collection of youths' on a misty winter night a month ago and was overjoyed to hear

"Is that gentleman somewhat insane" (exact words, honest)

As long as water isn't falling out of the sky, the roof can be down.

I should be so lucky. Been quite wet in London of late, haven't had the chance to even test the roof as it would soak the boot if I did.

Hmmm I am back.

Today I was driving along fine, 30mph, 40mph, then got 50mph zone. There was a bit of a clunk when the car tried to change up gear but otherwise was driving fine after (although there was a bit of a squeaky sound which I am putting down to wind noise), then once I got to the end of the dual carriage way and was waiting to come off up flashed the "Automatic Gearbox Fault" message on the central display - no other lights were shown, car was still driveable although wasn't putting itself on biting point/first gear - had to rev hard to get it to drive.

Once I had eventually managed to pull in (not many safe places to do so in and around London), turned the engine off and back on, no issue at all. Drove back home although didn't hit a 50mph zone, but no issues on the return drive.

Any ideas? Not really an issue as I'm sure the garage I bought it from will fix it, just curious.

You do know that you can by a parking assist pack....this is a sat nav that also doubles up as a rear parking system, it shows you the rear portion of the space you are going to park into along with lines to show how straight the car is and how close an object is behind, I think it hooks up to the rear lights to turn it on. Hope this helps :) look at hids4u as an example, this is a wireless system and you can shop around for a cheaper model. :)

Can't wait for a nice sunny day....Just because....I have Air conditioning without the AC turned on and my friends can't ;)

The only diy thing you can do is check the fluid level in the transmission. Other than that it's a specialist job.

I could indeed. But I feel that's a bit lazy. I just need to get used to the difference in size between what I learned in (Vauxhall Corsa) and this. Think it's just that the back window is not the "back" of the car that throws me.
And the consistent rain on my car that's been obscuring my view the past few weeks.

Thank you! I shall have a look after work or in the morning.

Hmmm.... for want of a spanner and being able to prop it up.

I shall just pop it around to the garage on Tuesday and let them have a look. Need them to look at the hissing noise (assume brake servo) coming from the glove box too so need the trip anyway.

Sounds like you have got a few problems with this one :( I would invest in one of the reversing cameras but i'm used to driving saloon model cars for work trips so find it easy to 1. know where the car is and 2. know where my mirrors are lol. From memory which is bad...I believe that when reversing the center of the rear wheel is the important factor because the car pivots at this point so finding a visual point for this would be the key, check where the car is in relation to the "edge of the wall" so that the car when on full lock can swing the front out to line the car up with the gap to park into, same with parallel parking, reverse until "you" are in line with the rear door of the car you are reversing next to, then full lock to the left, once the front of your car "Left light" to there "Rear right lights" start to straighten up, at a point you may need to stop - deferentially stop before hitting the car behind, then full lock left and pull forwards, until you are straight. Also use your handbrake if on an incline - or automatic drivers can just use the brake. Hope this helps. ;)

I really haven't given the parking thing much thought. Probably cos I'm an old git and been driving allsorts of vehicles for more years than I care to remember.
My daily work vehicle is an Extra long wheelbase Sprinter van, and I often tow a 14ft twin axled trailer with it, so reversing (or any tight maneuvers) with mirrors is the only way with that.
I have just got into the habit of using mirrors to park whatever I'm driving.

If you think a 206cc is hard, try a Corvette.
Can't see the 1st 3-4ft of the bonnet.
Can only see the door handles in the mirrors.
Can't see the back at all from mirrors or rear windows
The "B" posts are about 10" thick so you have many blind spots!
and it's left hand drive
Cheers Col.

Update:
So finally brought the car into the garage on Tuesday. Still there now. They say they have found a leak in the gearbox so they are currently putting it back together and going to take it for a test drive.

Said he couldn't hear the hissing noise, but he probably hasn't driven it long enough yet.

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but there was a beeping noise when going over bumps and such, worked out it's the little bit of plastic on the boot clasp is worn making the car think that boot is opening when going over bumps. I rolled it around a bit and now it's OK.

Not sure how I managed without, all this no-car time, is making me sad. I just want to drive and drive and drive.
