Well done. What torque did you tighten the hub bolt to?
Cheers Col.

According to Haynes there are two different settings for the driveshaft retaining nut depending on whether it is a staked nut, or a nut retained with locking cap and R-clip.

For the staked nut it is 245Nm (181 lbf ft)

For the nut retained with locking cap & R-clip it is 325Nm (240 lbf ft)

Actually i did not have torquemeter ,so i tightened it as i could!
but there is a question, the hub nut did not have any retainer or even retainer slot & i had to destroyed slightly the edge of nut with a mallet to prevent any probably rotation of the nut with it self .and one more question is as i said, what is the classification of this nut hub?staked nut or another type?

Staked nut ...

BTW .. what did you use to get it as tight as you can ... it's still not sensible without double checking .. by that will probably mean a new hub nut now.

And over-tightening is as back as under ... it can wreck the bearing you've just fitted. Although without the proper equipment, you're unlikely to get it tight enough!

Is it not possible to achieve the correct torque (240 lbf ft) by tightening to a lower torque and then doing the remaining tightening by rotating the hub nut through a prescribed angle (i.e. 90 degrees) ? I am sure this is what is specified in the Haynes manual for the old Vauxhall's.

That figure is for the other type of nut with the R-clip.

I suppose it would be possible but Peugeot don't specify the tightness in that manner for the wheel bearings.
