Parcel Shelf Piston

Post by mattau »

Morning all,
Done some more digging into my roof problems.
Trying to slowly tick things off the list.

Went over the youtube demo of the roof mechanism, and it seems my parcel shelf piston isn't moving with the bootlid.

Initially i had suspected electrics, but as they are all working, i'm wondering if the piston is broken.

There is no fluid leaking from that one, and no signs of leakage, however as the car had been sitting for 2 years, i don't know whether it is possible that it has leaked out, or whether it has been replaced, and has not refilled from the pump.

The pump (from Enright) is working, and i understand that it works any air out itself.
Hydraulic lines look fine, and from what i can tell, they are all attached to the pump correctly.

As the piston doesn't move back itself, it does not move so that the roof open switch can operate properly.
The problem with the roof moving starts before the roof is stowed, however presumably the pump/motor might register a difference if a piston is out?

I guess i need a new parcel shelf piston, so does anyone know how hard/easy this is to switch out?

Tks in advance for reading.
Matt

If it's not leaking it's unlikely to be that. Check your microswitch first.

Microswitches all been checked.
If car has been off road for 2 years, with known roof problems, its possible there is something wrong with it. I don't know how good the pump is at clearing air bubbles. Maybe there is no fluid in there.
Doesn't seem 100% certain that the shelf not moving would cause roof to stop, but i've ordered another piston anyway. See if that makes a difference.
Will post back when its fitted!
Cheers
