instead of taking out any screws etc, my dad put a rubber tube over the open latch which was tightly fastened around the latch then clipped it back up!
simple! not a squeek since, no need to use silicone lubricant or undo any screws!

ive had exacly the same problem with the looser latch on the passenger side! the solution i found was so simple to stop the creeking completly.

This worked for me !!.......unclip the latch either side , take a small piece of rubber tubing either black or clear ( got mine from a garden centre , the sort of tube you would use in an aqarium ! ) cut a piece about 1 1/2 " long and slide over the hooked end. push latches home again which makes a nice tight fit. I found that the metal hook rattles on the metal so covering it silences it !!! worked for me.
