HELP - WASHING CAR HAS CAUSED ECU PROBLEM ?

Post by Kabuki »

Hi guys, I hope you can shed some light on this.
My 206cc had been for a jet wash, it was cleaned underneath too and also had a light sprinkle inside the bonnet.
I had noticed previously that the mastic rubber around the ECU connections was perishing but never thought much.
Anyway after the wash my car has the anti pollution fault error appear, and when I press the accelerator there was no power at all, the engine started fine a bit lumpy and it rolled home in drive, lucky as there was no hill on the way.

I have been told by the dealer that the ECU must of got wet and will need changing, the error codes he gave me are as follows...
P1632
P1157
P0221
P0223
P3015

Does anyone have any advise, my car has never had any problems like this until the jet wash !!!

Thank in advance

Hmm!
Other than P1632 & P3015, those codes refer to the throttle body assembly. I would take it off , remove the cover, and dry it out in the airing cupboard over night and try it again. Those other two codes could well be historic in any case (Alternator charging & fuel bypass)
Cheers Col.

When requesting help of a technical nature, please give as much detail of the fault as possible along with details of exact model, engine size & type, gearbox, year, mileage, and any relevant work carried out to try to solve the problem to help us help you.
Better still, put the details in your signature.

I think the moral of this tale is simple ...

DON'T JET WASH UNDER THE BONNET!!

You aren't the first, and I doubt if you will be the last. Even steam cleaning can screw up the electrics .. it's best not to bother.

If you do need to clean it, you need to seal up everything that is electrical ... or use Gunk and a toothbrush!
