Seat Airbag replacement

Post by magichands »

Hi,
I've recently bought a 2004, 206cc and the passenger side airbag has been deployed in an accident before I bought the car.
I'd like to know if anyone can tell me, do I need to get this replaced/fixed before the MOT or will it pass as it is?
How and where would I get this replaced and approximate cost, do I need to go to a Peugeot garage.

Many thanks for your time.

u can ask anybody else but better off looking for second hand seat or full set. many people dont just sell seat airbags! and then just not about the airbag it self, theres is other bits to the airbag when its goes off plus yr airbag light will be on which is a no pass for mot. and if do change bits make sure u get some advice first...

Thanks for the reply, airbag light isn't on and the seats are pretty hard to find as they are the red/black leather ones, the ones I have seen are pretty tatty, my car has only done 21,000 and the seats are like new.
So, MOT fail or pass with no light on?
Thankyou.

Pass with no light on unless there is visibly no airbag an a hole on where it should be.

You also need the crash data cleared from the airbag module or a new module (recoded to your car) and new crash sensors. If you are changing the seats, the new ones have to have EXACTLY the same plugs and pin configuration as the old ones.

If I found a seat from the same car/year would that have exactly the same plugs?

I checked under the seat and all the connections are there all plugged in, the warning light on the dash doesn't come on so and the passenger airbag isn't turned off using the key.

The seat belt isn't locked either.

Peugeot garage want £600 to replace the airbag.

I'm wondering what would happen if I put seat covers over the seats as it is right now and it went for an MOT.

The light has to come on with ignition, then go off after a couple of seconds, if not it's a fail. (item 2 below)

From the MOT testers manual.
1.
As far as practicable, check that all airbags fitted as original equipment are present and not obviously defective.

2.
Turn on the ignition and check the presence and operation of any Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) malfunction indicator lamp(s) (MIL)

3.
Check the presence and condition of any seat belt load limiters and/or pretensioners fitted as original equipment.

Not necessarily as it depends on original spec. If you get it wrong, the air bag light will come on (search the forum for *seat changes* or similar. Some one had exactly that problem)
Cheers Col.
