Engine firing on 2 of the cylinders?

Post by Deanne »

4 Weeks ago when I started the car the management light started flashing, and it felt like I had no power it took longer to excelerate, then the management light turn solded colour and the car went faster it keeped doing that at one point I was doing 30 and my foot was flat 2 the floor.

Garage did a diegnostice and he changed the coil pack an reset management system that seemed to fix it but after 4 weeks today it has started again was worried my car would die.

Any one got any ideas what it could be??? I also had the battery replace over a week ago.

1001 Y reg 2.0 SE manual Col

see the recent post on

I suspect it could be non-Bosch spark plugs. Worth a look anyway as it wouldn't take long. Could check the air filter too while under the bonnet.

Seem to have had constant exhaust problems - I wonder if that is a non-standard one too.

Ah, thanks Ron.
He would be really unlucky for coil pack to go again. I take it the engine management light is back on?
As Ron says, check you have Bosch super 4's fitted.
You could take them all out, fit them into the coil pack and rest the metal bodies of the plugs against the metalwork on the engine and see if they spark when engine cranked.
They are paired 1 & 4 - 3 & 2 so if you have both plugs of a pair not sparking, it is probably the coil pack. If you don't get anywhere with that then you really need to get the fault codes and post them here.

Do you do mainly very short journeys?
Cheers Col.

If it is the coil pack and it need to be replaced again then I'd renew the spark plugs at the same time with the correct spec Bosch ones. Less chance of spiking the new coil pack.

Hi its a 2litre SE 2001. I took it 2 gforce this morning as when I started it it kept backfiring then drove in limp home mode. he conected it up an ran a full diognostic, dont know what he did but engine sounds beter than ever, said if the light comes on again then he will change the spark plugs an replace coil pack as its only been on car 4 4 weeks.

He thought maybe as I had a new battery put in and didnt get the management system updated it might be what made WILD so unhappy. lol

Hope it's sorted.
Always a good idea to get a print out of the diagnostic codes.
