I've just started experiencing a whining noise that gets to an almost high pitch squeal when I dip the clutch. Only drove a short distance, maybe 2 miles, and by the time I pulled up on the drive there was an awful smell as if something was burning! I can only presume that this is my clutch that is on its way out?! If anyone else can tell me any different please let me know!
Not the kind of expense I need at this time of year!

Re: New clutch???
Sounds like the clutch release bearing eating through the clutch plate diaphragm. New clutch required methinks. How old, how many miles, what sort of driving - rural or urban etc?

Re: New clutch???
I think i have the same problem as kellymc1983. Driving to work today i kept getting a screeching noise when changing gear and at one point the clutch stuck. Ended up turning round and driving home and have left car to be checked over another day. Could it be that its just so cold at the moment? Previous owner is my stepmum so i've checked with her and she had no problems ( but then never drove on cold frosty mornings ) . My journeys are more stop/start than hers as well. Only had my car since November so still worry about things i've not expreienced before.

Re: New clutch???
It's definitely the clutch that has gone on my car. Luckily a friend of a friend is repairing it for me so i'm getting 'mates rates' once i have the cash in place to pay for it. Otherwise i'd be looking at anything between £300 - £500! Not the kind of expense you need in January!
