Squib Replacement....

Hi,

I have a 206cc 2005 1.6 - my airbag light has come on with a message saying faulty airbag. I took my car to a garage where they hooked it up to there universal computer and said it was the squib and unfortunately they couldnt do it. I rang peugeot up and they said £400 (once they stopped laughing ).

im hoping the garages computer got it wrong and it is just one of the wires under the seat that is loose ( I will check) but if in fact it is the squib that needs replacing then is it hard to do and what is the process for it....

Any help you can offer i would be grateful.

The new squib was over £100 when I replaced the one on our 2002 Hdi ... that's the multiplex version just like yours.

There used to be a good how-to on 206info.co.uk but I think it was lost when the server crashed. I know as I wrote it with a few pics!

Disconnect the battery and leave the car for 15-20 mins so the airbag system discharges. If you don't you could trigger the airbag.

Basically it's unclip the airbag and disconnect it. There are two squarish holes at the back of the steering wheel and you can unclip the airbag through these. Place it face-up on the ground. If it does trigger (and it shouldn't), face down will put the unit in orbit!

Disconnect the horn connections and remove the steering wheel. This is a torx screw fitting and it likely to be tight. It will also have "loctite" on the threads.

Replace the squib unit and then replace the steering wheel and the connections. Remember to clean off the bolt and refit with loctite or similar.

Reconnect the airbag and clip it into place.

Pretty sure it was lost when the server when down .. but I have a few pics. I'll try and post them up. They may help.

I didn't find it too difficult. The airbag connections are colour-coded and simply plug in.

The only downside of a 2nd hand on is do you know if it works ... but I agree, a new one is very expensive.
