Hi only had the car a short while but just a question im hoping to get an answer for....
its hard to explain but here goes, when im say 2nd or even 3rd gear and i want a bit of acceleration sometimes the car labours to give me it, the revs will go up but my MPH increases very slowly!
However sometimes when i press my foot down on the pedal it can virtually take off ( well not quite but you know what i mean)
Is this an issue or am i just being paranoid??

Re: Power, 1.6s petrol
If your revs increase markedly but speed does not, it sounds as if your clutch is slipping.
(That's assuming it's a manual, only you have given us no details of the car)

Re: Power, 1.6s petrol
Hi sorry yes its a manual drive, thanks for the info.
is there anything else i can check to confirm that its the clutch slipping or should i just get it sorted?
The cars ok making steady progress in MPH but doesnt have much of a kick to it.
my uncle has his own repair garage so its just cost of parts for me

I suggest you get him to confirm if it's the clutch or not.
Cheers Col.

Hi there I've just had my clutch replaced so know what to look for. My car was the same, a bit 'sluggish' and revs were high even to pull away. Biting point was very high.andyr wrote:Hi sorry yes its a manual drive, thanks for the info.

When I was on a 18% gradient hill my car revved to 5000 before starting to pull away. Other signs are that first thing in the morning (when car is cold) you don't notice the clutch slipping. It only happens as it gets warmer. My car was generally noisy and always over revving. Garage be able to warm it up and test it for you.
Hopefully it isn't the clutch as it is a big job and expensive! Mine was £450ish mates rates...
Also mine is a 1.6 S too

Re: Power, 1.6s petrol
Thanks, mines nowhere near as bad or obvious as that but i will still take it over the garage for a once over.
it has also been cutting out first thing in the morning though lately also,
just as i pull out of my street say about 800meters i have to stop to cross the lane of traffic it just cuts out then, thought at first i was being a mong driver but its happened a fair few times now to blame it on that!
Also once ive actually got going somewhere i dont have an issue, just the inital hic-up and its fine.
baffles me to be fair.

Have you got an exhaust leak? Have you a cracked a split breather hose - you can sometimes hear them hissing?
What fuel do you use and where do you buy it? Try Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate if you don't already use them.
