"juddering" when pulling away and irregular "tick over"

Hey all

Recently became a proud owner of a 2001 206cc 2.0 se. While i absolutely love it to bits there is a couple of things that need sorting...

When pulling away in 1st gear and even sometimes changing into 2nd gear the car "judders". Its very brief and the overall performance of the car is better than i can expect for a car of its age but if its somethng i can fix i would rather get it sorted. It also ticks over when idle a bit irregular...its never cut out but it doesnt tick over smoothly.

If anyone can help make my pug better i would be really grateful

Has it got the right grade of oil?
Has it got the correct (Bosch) plugs?
Is there any warning coming up in the centre binnacle?
Is it better when warmed up?

as far as my other half informs me....yes it has right grade of oil,has correct plugs,no warning comes up and its better ticking over when cold and the juddering is worse when warm

Check for air leaks / split pipes around back of engine and near brake servo(hissing) and if plugs are old, renew them (make sure they are the Bosch super 4's and not NGK)
Failing this a diagnostic machine that runs live data will help point you in the right direction.

This sounds similar to an issue i've been having with mine. It races away, idles poorly and judders a bit. I updated the two Valve cover gaskets thinking it may be effecting it but had no luck. I've run a cleaner through the injectors and that wasn't much help either.

My hunch is that it's a fuel sensor. the only problem is that there are 2 before that cat converter and one after. the only way to determine is a trip to the Dr for a ride on the diag machine.

Mines going in on Thursday so I'll keep you posted how I go.

the two sensors on the exhaust are the lambda sensors, and usually throw up the anti pollution fault if they are the culprit. I hope that doesnt confuse the issue.
Capncols diagnosis would be more the way to go in my opinion.

The tickover is controlled by the ecu opening & closing the throttle to maintain idle speed.
If you have an air leak in the pipework on the inlet manifold, it can allow extra air in which bypasses the throttle body and can cause idle speed to increase or become unstable.
The "fuel sensors" you refer to are lambda (o2) sensors and will not cause your problem, nor would the valve covers.
Diagnostic machine should point you in the right direction and save you money in the long run, but check for air leaks first.

Just got the official answer - it was the injectors. Still to get the specifics but it'll be fixed by the morning

I don't think the diesel was out in 2002. Came out in 2005 as I remember. My money would still be on a cracked plastic breather hose that's leaking.

Guess what - the miss has been fixed by the fuel injector but the ticking noise remains. I'm gutted!!!

My car isn't a diesel.

The next thing that I can think of is the flywheel causing the noise. It only does it when moving so I'm kind of lost for what else it could be.

Ticking noise? Pinking? Are you using top quality fuel or cheap stuff?
