Boot Lock

Post by gazza82 »

A while back our boot lock stopped working .. turned out that the operating solenoid arm had been bent and being plastic, it wasn't going back without snapping. So I contacted my trusty 2nd-hand parts man in Macclesfield and a new one was winging it's way to us the next day.

Changing it was relatively easy ..

Remove the interior boot handle first as well. Gently prise the handle apart ... but if you are unlucky the tabs will snap off.

Now remove all the push pins and take the interior cover cover off the boot lid. Unhook it from the two rubber bumpers.

Two small philips screws and the solenoid is movable making the electric plug easier to pull out.

Twist to remove the operating rod.

Now replace with the new motor in reverse order, but before you start fitting the covers check it works ...

PULL THE BOOT COVER OVER AND CLIP IN PLACE ... if you don't and the boot lock doesn't operate, you can't get in!!

Now turning the boot lock should operate the solenoid ... I had to slightly bend the operating rod as it wasn't pushing on the solenoid rod in the right way .. you could see it was pushing the rod at an angle.

Now replace the interior cover, the push-pins and the handle.

If you have shut the boot and the lock doesn't work, raise the boot with the roof switch and stop when it's open and flipped back. Now reach it and operate the lock solenoid manually ... this is why it's important to keep the boot cover pulled out and the micro-switches are operating ... the boot won't flip if it isn't.

And I've yet to find a way in with it down! :?
