Gearbox Fault

Post by deejaayy »

Hi all,

Had my 52 plate 206cc for a couple of weeks now, and then towards the end of last week it started making a strange whirring noise when setting off :hmm:

Have just had it in at the mechanics this morning and been told that it needs the gearbox bearings replacing :( has plenty of oil in it and doesn't appear to have been run dry so I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue before and any experiences with it?

Been told that it's OK to drive, the noise will only get worse and will need doing, rough estimate of the cost is around £350 and car off the road for around 5 days (oh well at least we've had our period of summer...)

Any experiences anyone else has had with this would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Andy

Sadly I had this problem too, my car only had 27k on the clock as well.

Hmmm...

Unfortunately once the gearbox was removed it was declared kaput! Bearings, main rods and primary gears all needed replacing so a reconditioned 207 gearbox has now been installed.

Running really nicely now, but not had the bill yet - just waiting to see...not looking forward to that one! :o

Another one bites the dust....

55 plate 206cc 1.6 sport.

Any advice on exact gearbox model and cheap place to get it fixed (around the nuneaton/hinckley area) greatly appreciated.

Or if someone wants to buy it off me and do the work themselves? It's just over 60k on the clock, gun metal grey, other faults - one bulb blown on dash behind heater dials and a wobbly drivers side mirror.
