Hi Everyone,
This is my first post I have used a few of the guides that are on here but I am now struggling.
I bought my friends Peugeot 206cc which was reported as having a snapped cambelt, when i got the cover off the belt hadn't snapped but it had stripped a few teeth so the result was the same!
I tried to do a compression test and couldn't get anything. I bought a fully reconditioned cylinder head which included cams and valves and everything. I refitted this head along with new gaskets and everything, it now has an even compression we hand cranked it a few times to make sure it was ok then started it today. The engine runs but the tappets are loud and the engine stop light is on.
I didn't run it for long as it didn't sound too good. Does anyone have any thoughts on how i could cure this or causes? also there didn't seem to be as much oil as you would expect around the cams.
The battery was disconnected for a week whilst we worked on it.
The oil is 10-40 as this was what i had but i used this with the intention of just flushing the engine through and then using the correct oil.
Thanks
Dan

Re: Cambelt changed, Stop light illuminated and tappet noise
Hi Daniel and welcome.
So long as you have the headgasket on the right side up this is normal, you will find that the tappets are dry. It can take anything up to 20mins running it at a slighly fast idle to shut them up.
The only thing that bothers me is you say a lack of oil?? It shouldn't be full up and flying everywhere, but you should have oil up there.

Ok I have had a look over it again and taken it apart. It appears that no oil is getting in to the new cylinder head, it has creamed the oil and and filter now. I fitted a new head gasket when we did all this so cannot understand why this has happened. Has anyone any experience of this? Could the new head be faulty?

Sounds like you might have got gasket upside down. If you have, then the oilway hole in the gasket doesn't line up with the holes in the head and block (neither will the waterways)
Thought that was the case from your description in 1st post. Sorry. Got to take it apart and another head gasket required.

Hi You were right, as soon as I took it apart I saw it, It frustrating as i checked to make sure everything was ok! Obviously not checked well enough! I bought a new gasket and typically this one had TOP marked on it, but I wouldn't have made that mistake again anyway! Engine is now running nice and smooth, just on with fixing other niggles now.
