engine revs problem

Post by djickykilla »

hi
just sorted one problem and now time to resolve the next one

my pug has started to act a little strange..
when i start the car up the revs hit 2000 mark and stays there it used to drop back down to 1000, whilst driving the car it shudders and looses power frequently.. when i pull up to traffic lights it revs really high again and the situation just circulates.. any ideas wat this could be ? :(

Sounds like an air leak. Have a close listen around the engine for a hissing noise.

ive had a listen and cant say i can hear anything out of the ordinary...
i have been told by a friend of mine to disconnect the negative terminal off the battery for an hour and then reconnect ?? this doesnt sound like it would solve the issue surely ?

Er!! Before you go doing that, you should look at the sticky at the top of the electrical problem page about BSI reset & Battery disconnections.
Cheers Col.

As Capncol says, sounds like an air leak. There is a plastic breather hose at the top of the engine which goes to the manifold end of the duct connecting the air cleaner housing to the inlet manifold. These hoses which are flexible but made of quite rigid material tend to go brittle with age. They then crack and leak causing the sort of symptoms you describe. If yours has cracked you will need to get a new one from Peugeot.
