Brake warning light illuminated!

Post by williamraff »

Hi folks,

I thought it was just an intermittent switch issue but the brake warning light is now constantly illuminated on the dash.

Discs and pads look fine front and back so I am assuming it is something a bit more involved? Does anyone know where I might check first ?

Peugeot dealers are out of the question for all the usual reasons, so it will be down to removal and replacement of offending items - am I right in thinking it could be brake pressure related? If so is there a favourite component or system which might be at fault?

Thanks in advance for any responses but not to worry if it is a little too technical, I will however post my conclusions once the fault has been addressed for fellow members.

All the best,Will :)

I'd be checking my brake fluid level. If not that then the handbrake switch.

It'll be interesting to know what you find.

If the pads have a wear sensor (and I'm not sure either of our 206s have), check that the wire is not just worn away and earthed to the suspension somewhere ... that would give you a false warning light.

And there will only be sensors on the front pads and then usually only on one pad (inner with single piston calipers) .. and sometimes only one wheel!
