Stainless Steel Exhaust!

Post by sallykay88 »

I have a 2002 206cc 1600 and the exhaust moves and bangs the underneath car body especially when cornering! A local exhaust fitter said that it was the "nature of the beast", and you can expect that from a cabriolet, my Peugeot dealership have checked the fittings and said it is okay but because it is not a genuine pug exhaust that is the problem. I have seen some very nice SS Exhausts advertised at just under £300 fitted, is this the way to go or will it still knock? I am in Kent can you recommend a garage? Thanks Sal x

Before you go to the expense of a new exhaust check the hanger rubbers. They are probably getting soft or even splitting. And you shouldn't expect it any car .. even a cabrio. What is means is the hangers aren't doing their job which is to hold it steady but allow it to flex a bit. Check also the metal shields that are above the pipe to make sure one isn't loose.

If they are, try the Powerflex versions. They are made of a harder material and keep the exhaust in place much better than the rubber ones. PS If you do, avoid Halfrods as they are really expensive their. One of the places I've used is ruderacing .. and fleabay!

Thanks Gazza, my local peugeot have checked it for me a couple of times and assure me that the main problem is because it is not a genuine pug exhaust and therefore the shape of it is not quite correct (probably originally from kwik fit or similar), they have adjusted it as best they can and checked the hanger rubbers etc, bit ive never been happy with it although it is better than it was! They have never really tried to sell me one but did quote me around £300 if I want to change it. Have seen on the net that a SS one is around that price as well, just wanted to know if I get a new one that it won't do the same, otherwise not much point changing it! I would never use Halford type garages, have been caught out before! Any other comments would be great please before I decide what to do - Thanks Sal x.

Hi Sal

My exhaust practically fell off a few weeks after buying my cc so I've had a stainless steel one fitted. I had one put on my last car and wouldn't have anything else as they are such value for money and come with a lifetime guarantee. I'd never go back to buying standard systems.

Mine is a custom made full cat-back Powerflow system and was £275 fitted around 18 months ago. You get to choose your tailpipe and even how it sounds. It was fitted at DCMS in Burnley (can recommend them to anyone) so isn't much help to you really but I can tell you that it definitely DOESN'T rattle or knock and sounds GREAT! If you go on the Powerflow website, they have a dealer locator.

As you can see, it looks superb when polished:

Hope this helps with your decision.

Hi Karen, Thanks for that, I quite fancy changing it for a SS one as I intend to keep the car, and summer is on the way LOL  . Have just found a Powerflow Dealership near me in Dover, Kent. I have sent them an email for details and prices etc, will let you know what happens. Sal xxx

Hi Sal

If you do decide to go ahead with one, just be aware that they can be quite loud.

I had the one on my last car quite loud (it made me smile every time I put my foot down although not when I had a headache) but I asked for this one to be a lot quieter because I wanted to be able to hear myself think with the roof down! It still sounds super-sporty but with out being over the top.

Hi Sal

Quite a lot cheaper up North, surprised at the difference, but you'll never need another. Well worth it if you're keeping your car. Post a picture if you decide to get one.

Ha ha, wondered who'd be the first to say something! You can't actually see any scratches in real life, they just showed up with the flash.

The damage I now have to the drivers side door and wing after some stupid woman ran in to the side of me on Thursday are my main priority. :(

Oooh, excellent! You'll never have to put another exhaust on so the cost will be worth it in the long run.

I haven't heard anything about my car yet, I was hoping for a phone call today as it was taken away on the back of a recovery vehicle on Friday afternoon. Just typical, the sun is shining today, it's a gorgeous day, proper top down weather! :(

Hi Sal

All being well, I'll get my car back on Friday. The repairs are costing £1850.00!! I'd already booked a day off work for something else so I've said that I'll collect it, that way I can give it a proper look over to make sure I'm happy with it before I drive it away.

I'll be so glad to hand my courtesy car back and get back behind the wheel of something fun to drive. Sunday was a gorgeous day and we had a day out at the seaside. Saw loads of people driving around with their roofs down and I wasn't one of them!
