Re: Gear change
Could be many things such as broken/soft engine/gearbox mount, exhaust, loose shift linkage, heatshield etc: Where does the sound seem to come from?
Cheers Col.

Re: Gear change
Hi, it sounds like its coming from The engine, I wasn't being funny either, it's a clunking sound
It's hard to describe, just between 1st and 2nd when I change at high speed, if I change at lower speed
There is no noise, sorry I can't be more accurate

Re: Gear change
As Capncol suggests, when you're accelerating fast the engine torque tries to move the engine within its mountings. A loose or broken engine or gearbox mounting will allow so much movement that the engine or gearbox contacts the bodywork causing the clonk that you describe. Sometimes the rubberised material in the mounting itself can go soft with age, or even lose the bond with the metal of the mounting, and too much movement can then occur. If the mounting (or mountings) are worn or broken then replacing them with new ones is the permanent solution. If they've lasted 11 years they haven't done badly.

Re: Gear change
Many thx for the reply, I've driven the car today and it when I change from 1st to 2nd the noise occurs
When I lift my foot of the clutch then the knocking noise happens, do I need to get this fixed quick
Will it do my car any damage, it only passed the mot last month wouldn't this of been picked up.
Many thx

Re: Gear change
Sounds like a mount.
These things are best sorted sooner rather than later. If it is a mount, it shouldn't be too pricey.
As always. Find a local garage with a good reputation (they do exist)

Re: Gear change
It's not good for it ... it will be putting stress on the other mounts ...Pebbles42 wrote:Will it do my car any damage
No. They only check suspension mounts. And they don't need to road-test them now ...Pebbles42 wrote:it only passed the mot last month wouldn't this of been picked up
