Stop warning light has started flashing continuously, but there is no other warning light on to link it with.Any ideas as I've not had a 206cc before and worried it could be something serious, and have a 340 mile trip to make in a few days.

Re: stop warning light
Stop immediately if the STOP sign is flashing when the engine is running. It is linked to the warning light for the engine oil pressure, the coolant temperature and low level gauge, the handbrake, the brake fluid low level, and electronic braking system ABS fault detection system. If the STOP light flashes you are likely to get one of these other warnings up at the same time.
If no other warning light is accompanying it then I would check coolant level for a start (and the state of the coolant! ), engine oil level second, and brake pad thicknesses third. If it still flashes after these have been attended to then when was the car last serviced properly? Someone may have cancelled the service indicator without actually servicing it. I wouldn't make that trip with the STOP light flashing.
Which engine do you have? Have the timing belt, ancilliary pulleys and water pump been renewed yet? If not, they are well overdue. Get that job done before the belt snaps otherwise you'll face a bill running to thousands of pounds. Renewing the belt, water pump etc will cost in the region of £350 - £400, a small price to pay compared with a new engine. Get it fully serviced at the same time if it hasn't been done in the last 12 months. Make sure a brake fluid change is carried out at the same time if it hasn't been done for 2 years.
Welcome to the forum. Let us know how you get on, or if you have further questions.

Re: stop warning light
Many thanks.
It had been raining heavily prior to this (didn't think to mention).
Anyway, Left it for a while, and since then, no stop light!?
Hope it was just damp somewhere, and I'm not ignoring something more serious

Re: stop warning light
And the timing belt......... has it been renewed? Ignore that at your peril.
I hope that now it has dried out the STOP light stays off for you.

Re: stop warning light
This one was 3K miles overdue (but not on age) and was on the point of failing.GrandadMonkey wrote:And the timing belt......... has it been renewed? Ignore that at your peril.
