drive belt tensioner replacement

Post by surfermick »

well, ive found the source of the tapping sound, it seems that the tensioner wheel for the drive auxiliary drive belt is vibrating (apparently worn) how easy is this to replace? im a fairly competent diy mechanic. i have tried cleaning the injectors (as advised) and whilst giving a smoother nippier drive i am still left with the tapping sound, any advice much appreciated. :)

The one above the alternator? It's more fiddly than anything. It's quite straight forward You might want to move coolant tank and other components located on inner wing to give more room. some times it's easier to drop engine off front mount and jack engine up to give more working room- All depends on if you have sausage fingers or not!!
Cheers Col.

The problem is usually to do with using the incorrect or cheap tools. When you do get it off replace the torx screw with a brand new one.

Good choice surfermick if you are more comfortable with them. Having said that, we use torx screws and drivers all the time to hold the tips in our CNC lathes and milling machines and we very rarely have a problem with them. Good luck with getting the existing one out.
