Brake disc replacement.

Post by 9388monk »

Hi, new to the subject but have been told by Peugeot that new front and back discs and pads are needed on a 55 plate 1.6HDi. I can do myself but finding out how is proving to be a pain..anyone got any ideas or links to previously discussed articles? Tools needed etc would also be good. Thanks.

If you want to work on your car yourself then I would recommend that you invest in a workshop manual such as Haynes (ref. no. 4613) - about £15 off ebay sellers: motoringbooksofbookham.

Welcome to the forum.

As for tools: besides a jack and wheel brace you'll need a socket set, torx drivers, allen keys, screw drivers and spanners. A hammer, and a copper mallet (or a lump of hefty wood) too for removing rusted on discs. Copper grease and brake fluid, and a length of flexy hose and a clean jar for bleeding the brakes afterwards. You'll need something to wind back the rear caliper pistons. I use a wind-back square with a 3/8" drive for that, but I know that other folk have improvised with other items. I use a torque wrench to tighten the wheel studs up properly.

Be safe, make sure the car is properly supported at all times.

If you do a forum search on brakes or brake discs you'll find some useful threads.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck.

Cheers fella, much appreciated. Actually looking forward to playing silly buggers on the wife's toy, just need the weather now!

Still slightly concerned as the book you recommend doesn't deal with the1.6 diesel lump, altho' will probably cover the brakes etc which is what I need. Annoyingly I just bought a CD that was supposed to be a Peugeot service manual and guess what it doesn't cover?.............yep, changing discs! I think I'll buy a book anyway and look for something on the motor later.

Little does the wife know that soon I'll have bits of her precious car all over the house....... :D !!

Yes, I ended up buying two books. One for the 206 and one which covers Peugeot diesel engines. Our 206cc is the 1.6 petrol though.
