My girlfriends car was left for 5 months on the drive SORN. She took it for mot and it failed on 7% efficiency for handbrake.
The front discs cleaned up fine after braking, but the rears didn't.
I decided to dismantle the brakes, fit new pads, was going to fit discs.
After dismantling the carrier from the caliper, i cleaned up with sandpaper the sliding bit at the bottom, that has a pin going through it, put new pads in, made sure the handbrake cable was moving freely too. When i removed the old pads I noticed the inner pad was worn unevenly, outside was thick and inside was thin.
The little bump on the back of the brake pad, is that meant to align with one of the slots on the piston when you wind it back? cos this wasnt and was in affect putting the pressure on only one half of the pad. When I came to do the other side, the pad with no notch was on the inside (with the piston) and seemed to be sitting alot better, but from what I understand the pad with the bump on is to go on the inside?
I thought I would change the discs, after removing the carrier, and the Torq screw, the disc was jammed on solid. Is the discs on these integral with the bearing? or does it just need hammering off the hub flange? so for now i cleaned up the discs that was on and now silver again
Any help would be appreciated regarding the notched on the brake pad and the discs.
