Help!!! my car is making squeeky noises

Post by WendyMoonstone »

My car just started making loud squeeling squeeking noises coming from the engine. This came on all of a sudden and seems to happen when the clutch is being pressed down and also when driving slow as on the motorway it seems fine!! The car is driving fine too. Any ideas anyone?? :(

You don't tell us anything about your car Wendy - model, age, mileage - so all we know is that it is a manual gearbox and makes a noise when depressing the clutch pedal.

Sounds like the clutch release bearing. If the car has done a fair few miles then it looks as if it is time for a complete new clutch assembly with a new clutch slave cylinder.

Visit a clutch specialist such as Mr Clutch (see Yellow pages) and get their opinion and a quote. Get another quote from your Peugeot main dealer and, if you've got one near you, an independent Peugeot specialist.

See: http://www.peugeot206cc.co.uk/viewtopic ... it=+clutch

Sound familiar?

Thanks for Advice guys think I may stay away from Mr Clutch now and take my beloved car to a reputable garage nearby. Would rather pay for a proper job to be done. Will pop it into a couple next week and let you all know what they say as would appreciate the feedback on cost etc thanks

Up to you Wendy. I have no idea whether Capncol and Draper have actually used Mr Clutch themselves.

I can only go on my own personal experience with them, which has been good. My son's Peugeot and my daughter's S2000 both had clutches replaced by Mr Clutch in Leicester and Nottingham, and we would use them again. They quoted prices quickly, which were competitive, and did the work promptly to a generally good standard.

My son's Peugeot was hesitant starting shortly after the clutch had been replaced and Mr Clutch found that to be a loose battery lead connection, but they tightened it up to cure the problem and that sorted it. Presumably their mechanic hadn't tightened it fully when first reconnecting the battery.

The clutch on the S2000 went again within 12 months and Mr Clutch replaced it again, free of charge, under warranty.

So there you have my experience, warts and all. I would definitely use them again and have no hesitation in recommending them.

I have used both main dealers and my local village garage for work to be done in the past and have had similar issues with both. I service and repair both of our cars myself, and would like to say that I do a perfect job each and every time, but occasionally I'll get something wrong or forget something that I'll have to re-do but we're all human and can only do our best.

I hope you manage to find the perfect garage up in your neck of the woods. Good luck.

I haven't used them myself Ron, but I have sorted out quite a few problems they have caused to customers cars. Sounds like you have a "good" branch that you use.
Cheers Col.
