I didn't get that in the SLK which accomodated my feet quite comfortably. I found the ride round corners in the SLK much more stable at speed (the cc leans way too much as the suspension feels too soft)the SLK suspension is much tighter with BAS, ABS and ESP - Electronic Stability Programme breaking individual wheels and if necessary reducing the engine's output to counteract instibility if it arises.
I think it was the build quality and general power that impressed me 0-62.5 in 7.1 seconds, 150 mph top speed as well as the handling round corners. Only a little down from the 320 V6 with a 0-62.5 in 6.9 seconds. Oh and no creaking in the roof or windows thank goodness. The boot space seemed much the same to me when I looked in.
The looks are way different between the two cars and I can't see how you can ever really compare the two, I love the Pug with its cheeky fat rear end but the SLK has more sleeker, cleaner lines which makes it such a different car to look at.
I've put a deposit down on the list for the new SLK out in 2004 which stands to be different with a roof folding mechanism more like the new SL (ie. the screen splitting and revolving 180 degrees away from the metal roof to allow greater storage in the boot.
Mercedes have just brought some great new models out, the new E Class and I looked at the new CLK, the back and front resembles the new SL and the side of which with rear windows now folding, resembles the Mercedes CL.
Sorry if i'm rambling on but cars really are my favourite pastime.
Robbie.
