However it's 10years old in great shape apart from a message that came up saying I had a Catalytic converter fault. I took it to the garage who done something and switched the light and message off.
What I need to know is, Is my baby girl OK to drive still?????? xxxx
Congrats on your new purchase, and welcome to the forum
I wouldn't worry about your cat issue if it hasn't returned.
These spurious"faults" can come up from time to time and often don't return once cleared.
If it was genuine, fault would have returned almost immediately.
To keep your catalyst healthy, only use good quality fuel & engine oil from BP or Esso etc, don't use supermarket fuel stations or cheap engine oil.
From time to time, go for a good motorway blast to get cat temp up to full working temp. This will help burn off the impurities and keep it clean.
When requesting help of a technical nature, please give as much detail of the fault as possible along with details of exact model, engine size & type, gearbox, year, mileage, and any relevant work carried out to try to solve the problem to help us help you.
Better still, put the details in your signature.
Hi I just made it home after a scary drive on the M25 with all lights on and flashing and petrol was close to empty. The car was jerking and could only do 30-40mph and cars behind got annoyed. I moved to the very left to avoid causing accident. Was prepared to put hazard lights on if it broke down.
This time not just the Aladdin light was on, also a light next to the petrol warning light which was a triangle with a car skidding light was also on. The screen kept showing catalyst converter fault, antipollution fault and ESP/ASR Not functioning. all these 3 msgs kept coming on screen. I was panicking, was worried my car wld blow up before i got off the M25. Finally off M25 and stopped at BP and put petrol in. Once filled with petrol, all warning signs gone but the Aladdin light was still on.
I took my car to the garage a few times about the Aladdin light on, they put in the computer and reset and was fine and they said it could be other problems and said it's no problem carrying driving. So i kept driving today even it came on but later the warning messages all come on. very worrying.
Could you please tell me if any peugeot mechanic i can go near heathrow. I really dont want to go back to the same garage that just sent me back each time the light was on. I really want to know if there's a problem. I have been driving more lately and the car was service only 4 mths ago. Dont really want to see it die on me. Thank you. cara.
Gazza will be asking about your battery because lots of spurious fault warnings can appear with a battery that is nearing the end of its life.
The engine oil pressure warning light comes on when your oil pressure is too low. If your engine oil is up to the correct mark on the dipstick then I would suspect that when your car was last serviced a none-genuine oil filter was used. It is important to use genuine Peugeot replacement parts because pattern oil filters have been known to collapse causing low oil pressure. In that case the solution would be to remove the non-genuine oil filter and replace it with a genuine item. You don't need to drain the oil from the engine to do this. Top up the oil after changing the filter.
If this isn't the problem then perhaps you have a worn or failing oil pump.
As regards the poor running when low on petrol - I always try to avoid running low on fuel as it can cause dirt to be sucked up from the bottom of the fuel tank into the fuel lines. I fill up when I get down to a quarter of a tank and always use quality petrol such as BP Ultimate or Shell V-Power Nitro+.
I seem to remember you said in the past that your car uses oil. If your car is high mileage and has worn piston rings you could be getting oil past the rings into the combustion chambers. If oil gets into the exhaust system the sensors will detect this and put on the anti-pollution warning and the catalytic converter fault warning. The long-term solution in that case is normally replacement of the piston rings as part of a major engine overhaul.
Cara, I would try running the car on with a fuller fuel tank on quality petrol, checking your oil level weekly - topping up when necessary, and replacing your oil filter now with a genuine Peugeot part. That won't cost much. Let us know how you then get on. Good luck!
