yes they do have problems with leaks - sorry Robbie.

They also have problems wth windscreens delaminating. My friend sold his after 8 months due to problems.

But on the positive side Mercedes couldnt do enough to fix the problems - they WERE VERY GOOD.

Take note Peugeot

oh and yes i have to agree with Robbie, the CC is a great car if you get a good one. If not it can be a bit disheartening.

I still love thm despite changing brands - so dont crucify me - feel sorry for me instead.

Here in Norway peugeot and mercedes is sold by the same dealers and both use the same garages... I'm in the same que as the mercedes owners when i deliver my car for service and we are met by the same service.

bergen, that sounds like a good system in operation.

I have my cc for the summer still and will enjoy every moment of it (once its been repaired again) and I still have that excitement every time I look at it.

Rob, oh well - I'm not surprised, I never thought for one moment that buying an SLK would excuse me from the problems that can be associated with any mechanical vehicle. It's just that when looking at the build quality and the lines of the SLK and being driven round the tighest corner at some 70mph feeling the car running on rails, I realised it was time to upgrade (though this in no way detracts from the fun car my cc is and has been to me).

Still, I also put a deposit down for the new SLK due in 2004 in the hope that any real problems would have been ironed out by then, but you never know Rob.

GregS, yes the folding roof is similar, I was told that Mercedes sold Peugeot the rights to the mechanical roof (not sure if this included the leaks as well - lol). I can say that when I was in the SLK listening to the silent wirring of the roof folding and unfolding above me, it sounded a lot quieter and in better health than the one on my Pug.

Oh, and NS, please, lets be adults.

Thanks for that Matt, to be honest, I have no idea about the history of the Merc folding mechanism, I was only told this by the Merc dealer when we came in to buy the SLK. He said Mercedes sold the mechanism rights to Peugeot but without the self locking mechanism, hence the clips used to close the Peugeot roof (could have been sales patter etc who knows). I'll try and check out the history when I return from Toronto.

I know that folding roofs have been around for many years (since the 30's?) so the concept is nothing new of course.

No comments guys about visiting the site while on holiday, I actually came onto the internet for other reasons and couldn't resist seeing the Drayton Park pictures- hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

Robbie, I admit I dropped in on the forum a few times when I was in the USA recently. I was staying at my cousin's who was at work a bit so the only entertainment at that time was cr@ppy shows on cable and the internet.

I have just done this swap, but the other way round. I traded my SLK 2.3 Kompressor in for a 1.6 auto CC. I'm another person who would have bought the 2 litre model if an auto had been available.

Nice to hear Arjay - let me know what you think about the two.

My SLK 230 Kompressor's not going to be delivered until 1st Sept. I found when I tried the SLK that performance was great though there was much more wind turbulance in the cabin than the CC with windstop, even with that SLK windstop stocking thingy up. :sad:

Thanks for the welcom Greg.
I've only had the CC a couple of weeks so it's a bit early to make a total commitment.
So far, the SLK wins easily for sheer power and good seating position. I find that I can't reach the steering wheel in the Pug if I adjust the seat for leg comfort, so I'm learning to drive with my knees well bent ( I'm 5ft 11in so not a giant by todays standards).
What has surprised me is how lively the 206 feels, it is a much more natural car to drive. It feels more controlled than the SLK on twisty roads.

my understanding with the slk is that there are no front catches to manually release.

i was considering the slk too....until everyone i knew told me i was too young for it, and i realised they were right

ARJAY - I have the same trouble (6'2")
You get used to it but it certainly doesn't feel completely natural. With the roof up i'm ok, but drive "slouching" with the roof down as i'm paranoid i look a gimp with my head sticking up over the windscreen (not to mention the trouble i'd get with flies!!)
As for the SLK - here in Germany they are the equivalent to the Ford Fiesta - everyones got one. That put me off, plus i don't think i like the look of them that much, the CC is definitely more "cuddly" (what was that about the CC having Jennifer Lopez's a***?

)
I've heard the boot space is not as good in the SLK either...?
