Multiple electrical issues

Post by AllenConquest »

Ever since I got my 206cc last year I've been having intermittent problems with the airbag warning lights (both passenger and driver). Also very infrequently (3 times in about 9 months) the clock resets itself when the electrics die at startup. Now for the last few days the low oil pressure light is coming on intermittently. The oil level is fine and over about 1200rpm the light goes out, sometimes it doesn't come on at all. My local garage (non-peugeot) looked at the car yesterday and said the computer indicated a faulty sensor. They replaced it, but no difference and have said I need to take it to a Peugeot garage for a full diagnostic.

Does any of this sound familiar and is going to a Peugeot garage the best way forward?

Thanks for any advice,

Allen

I had read other posts about the battery needing replacement. Can anyone recommend where to get a new battery?

Thanks

Check your nearest Peugeot dealer first. The battery for the cc isn't the same size as the 206 and may need to be packed if you don't buy the right size. I bought one from the dealer when I had similar electrical problems to you and found them to be very competitive. It cost me £52.

Just phoned my local main dealer. He quoted me a price of £85.77+vat. When I said that I'd seen them for about £50 he said the best price he could do was £62+vat. This still seems a lot compared to the price mentioned in the previous post.

Any tips on where to look for a good price?

UPDATE: Just phoned our local car spares shop (Midnight Motors, Watford) and they quoted me £59.99 (inc. VAT). That is definitely a 206cc battery, so might go for them instead.

Now how easy is it to replace? (I'm a novice, but willing to learn!)

Thanks for the link about battery replacement.

My other concern is that the Low Oil Pressure warning light goes out when I'm above about 1200rpm, and then comes back on when the revs drop. This doesn't really sound like an electrical problem. Could I have multiple issues here?

The Peugeot dealer is quoting £69.90 for an hour of electrical diagnostic work. I'm not sure if it's worth paying the money or not!

Does engine sound "harsh" when oil light on?
Which engine?
How many miles?

It could be the oil pressure sender which is not too bad DIY. Tell me the engine & I'll tell you were it is and how to swap.

Just went to Midnight Motors and the very friendly owner tested the battery and alternator. Evidently the battery I currently have in the car is not even big enough, but the alternator is fine. He said pretty soon I wouldn't even be able to start the car! So looks like the previous owner replaced the original battery with the wrong one.

I now have a spanking new battery, just got to work out how to fix it :D

Reading the Haynes manual, it says about disabling the alarm (which seems straight-forward), but then mentions the audio unit anti-theft system. I don't have the security code in any of the documentation I got from the previous owner. Help

Just replaced the battery. The radio seems to be working fine! No warning lights! Very happy with my first battery change

UPDATE: the low oil pressure light is still coming on. Guess that the dieing battery wasn't what was causing that! Now have to look at other options

Oil pressure warning?

My guess would that someone has used the wrong oil, or a pattern filter. What was used at the last service? Do you know?

I always use the recommended oil Total Quartz 9000 5w40 Fully Synthetic, and a genuine Peugeot filter, both obtained from my local Peugeot main dealer. Should cost you about £35 in all.

Some people have had pattern filters collapse, and others have used lower viscosity oils with the objective of improving their mpg - both false economies in my opinion.

I'd try an oil and filter change using the correct items as specified above. If you still have problems then you'd need to explore further.

Let us know how you get on.
