Anyone seen the latest fast car magazine with the ecosse 206 cc in it? It looks the part and i think that the 18" alloys and the lowering makes the car the complete package what do you think?

Yes the throttle bodies will give the car some need Oomph... and it looks mean..

But it will drive like shit on the 18's

Hi Simon,

How much BHP do the throttle bodies add ?

How much are they ?

Are they much better than supercharging ?

Next month's issue (March) of MAX Power has got ecosse's ultimate impact - kitted 206 on 19's!!! It does look superb (if rather in your face) if you like that sort of thing but the 19" alloys would make any car look fantastic. (don't know about the ride quality, handling or manoverability let alone the price of the tyres!!)

you said it would drive like shite on 18's, what about on 17's? The ride at the mo is hard and thats on 55 tyres on 15 inch wheels
Should i just upgrade to 16s and 45 tyres and does getting 17s and 40 tyres really give you a bad ride.

The answer to your question is basically this..

If you increase the diameter of the alloy then the profile of the tyre has to reduce..

As the tyre becomes thinner & wider then the ride becomes harder due to the fact that the tyre sidewall cannot "flex" and absorb some of the bumps.. Also an increase road noise will be heard..

Cornering with low profile tyres especially "40" profile or lower, can become very precarious.. Cos as you turn a corner with a reasonable tyre then the sidewall will flex allowing the tyre adesion to the road surface..
With low profile then the sidewall cannot flex and there is a much greater chance of the tyre breaking away and therefore understeering or worse..

This cold wet weather makes the problem even worse.. Wide tyres are not good on wet/slippy surfaces.. Thinner tyres are better.. Look at a winter WRC round.. They use very thin tyres for max grip..

I personnaly think 16" wheels on the 206 are an absolute max size in this weather..

There is no doubt that 17",18", 19" look the b*****ks but if you want a nice ride then they are not the ones to go for... :0((

The throttle bodies should see an increase of around 30bhp.. But the mid range torque is where the biggest improvement is seen..

Cost around Â£2500.. And very realiable..

NO one has succesfully got the supercharger system to work reliably on the 206 2.0 yet.. and it doesn't look like it will happen soon..

So Throttle bodies or even Carbs are a much better option
