Hi, Newbie Here

Post by Hazy Days »

Hi, just picked up my 2002 1.6

Whats with the high clutch ?, bites really high, thought I was gonna stall it every time I pull away in 1st, checking the forum this appears to be quite normal, have been driving a 2010 polo company car for last 2 years, buggers have taken car off me now (cutbacks an all that) so am on me own.

Though I'd have a little fun and purchased me coupe, bit of a mid life crisis also going here me feels

Please tell me i've made a good choice

Booked motor in Monday for cambelt and to have clutch checked, but would welcome any advice as don't want to be ripped of for new clutch if not required

:love-thx:

If it is changing gear cleanly and not slipping then it should be ok. All cars have different bite points. It depends not only on the car's mileage but also how it has been driven.

If the hydraulic fluid hasn't been renewed for a couple of years I'd get that done. I think many owners overlook that it is due every 2 years. The reservoir feeds both the braking system and the clutch.

New cam-belt kit and water pump sounds a good decision at nearly 10 years old.

Has it been serviced properly and regularly?

I'd read the owners manual thoroughly too - many faults are self-inflicted. Especially to do with the roof. Follow the instructions to the letter.

Welcome to the forum, good to have you with us.
