Re: STARTING PROBLEMS
This thread has been really useful - as i have had the same intermittant starting problems when hot for a few times now but starts when cold, only one garage would commit to a starter motor problem and wanted to charge me 204.00 fitted with genuine parts which i thought was reasonable, but to be honest the car is a 53 plate, so not too interested in genuine parts considering the age and mileage 79k im unable to do the work myself (girly girl) so will shop around for the cheapest quote
Thanks to all

Re: STARTING PROBLEMS
Hot start problems are quite common to these starter motors.
Don't get a starter from europarts. They use RTX branded ones and they are rubbish.

Re: STARTING PROBLEMS
Hello, I have an 04 206 1.6. Starts fine when cold, Starts fine hot with temperature around 75/80 normal. If you idol and let temperature get up to 90/95 turn engine off and try to start, the starter motor only clicks, let it cool down and starts fine. Yet to find a repair person that can solve the problem. One Peugeot dealer told me it was the Battery, replaced it problem still there. Another put a relay in, problem still there. [Starter Motor has been out and checked it was fine.
Have been told by ex UK Mechanic that it could be corrosion on starter connections.
Does anyone have a genuine solution or cause of the problem.
Thank you

Re: STARTING PROBLEMS
My wife's uncle had exactly the same symptoms on his 2004 206 1.6 GLX. If you've replaced the battery with a brand-new correct spec one, and checked all the connections including the earth lead then it will be the starter motor. Replace it with a new one. Starter motors of that era are renowned for failure when hot. See reap's post earlier in this thread for the explanation why.

Re: STARTING PROBLEMS
Thank you for the reply, May look into the starter motor end sticking when hot, not sure if anyone has tried making the machined hole a bit bigger, might solve the sticking problem. Starter is faultless other than when hot.
Thank you

Re: STARTING PROBLEMS
Hello, Starting problem on 206 sorted, just matter of finding someone that knows what they are looking for.
Replaced Soleniod on Starter Motor, Opened sealed Solenoid, contacts were well worn. Starter Motor itself was fine.

Re: STARTING PROBLEMS
Well done, thanks for feeding back the solution to your problem. How much was it to get that done?

Re: STARTING PROBLEMS
Hi, I am in New Zealand so in NZ dollars
Soleniod $120.00
Labour $160.00 (2 hours) Auto Electric Repair Shop)
Still works out cheaper than complete Starter Motor replacement which was not needed.
