HELP ADVICE AND CONVINCING...?

Post by jafdp »

Come on everyone...convince me! OK, so I have about 5-5,500k to spend and I want a 206 convertible......stupidly (?) I googled for any problems with the 206....there is quite a lot out there about the engine management light (?), car losing power, stop/starting etc etc.

I know that if you google ANY vehicle, its going to come up with something, but I guess I just need some reassurance that there really isnt a MAJOR problem. I guess for the money I am looking to spend I am looking around an 04/05 (06 at a push) plate...is there anything I really need to be cautious of, anything I need to look out for?

Any advice will be gratefully received...

Thanks

Hi Julie,
The 206 has been a best seller for Peugeot for good reasons. It is inexpensive, generally reliable and cheap to maintain. The 206cc is a lovely chic convertible.

We went for a 2005 1.6 Allure which averages about 40 mpg and little has gone wrong (just a reversing lamp switch which cost £7 to replace). Just make sure you read the owner's manual, as most problems seem to be self-inflicted by owners who don't read and follow the operating instructions (especially the roof).

The money you have should buy a very nice low mileage 2005 or 2006 car. Take your time and view several to get an idea of what is good.

Hi jafdp and welcome to the forum!

I also have a 1.6 model. Although mine is over 7 years old now I have had very few minor problems that could easily be dealt with.

The 2.0 engines do seem to have more issues from what I read and although I have never driven a 2.0, I find my 1.6 engine to be nippy enough for me.

Try and buy as new as you can with as little mileage and good service history and you should be fine.

Be sure to come back and let us know how you get on!

Hi ya
I decided on a 2.0 my self
When I got it the water pump was a little noisy and it had done 40k
So I decided to get cambelt and water pump done
This has been my only major expense really

I'd say look and drive both and decide what ud prefer
For that price u should be able to get a good car pretty speced out

Hi all - that's been really useful and quite reassuring as well - thanks - yes, I will wait out for a low mileage one - there seems to be quite a few on the market at the moment - but I think I can afford to be picky! I will certainly come back and let everyone know what I have brought, and in the meantime, if anyone knows of a good one in that price bracket, please feel free to let me know

Regards
