CUtting out?

Post by Meg »

Hi

I brought my 206cc a few days ago, i took it straight to the garage for a check over and found no prmbelms. This morning i went to start the car and cut out straight away, i re-started the car which was running a bit lumpy for a few seconds, is this a problem or just because the weatehr was -2 outside.

2.0 litre engines can suffer from a hydraulic tappet problem and the main symptom is poor running from cold. The long term solution to that issue is replacement of the hydraulic tappets costing several hundred pounds. Search the forum and you'll come across related threads.

However, if a car hasn't been serviced regularly there can be other things that cause it.

You don't tell us anything about your car so it is difficult to try to advise you.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for your reply.

Its a 1.6 It has a full service history, however i think it may need a service, its just done over 75000 miles, when i turned the car on on teh milage it poped up with a spanner and some numbers before changed to my milage, however now when i turn the key a get a - min then a line on boxes maz and a little symbol not sure what that means.

Sorry for all the questions has so much bad luck with cars now i have my dream car im a little paranoid

Yes. I'd get it serviced as it is overdue. It should run ok after a properly carried out service.

The symbols you are seeing are the oil level indicator. This from the manual. If you see boxes then the level is OK (it probably needs changing though as Grandad says), it's when they turn to dashes that the oil is very low.

Yes, it will flash when the service is overdue. Also explained in the manual here

When you book it in Meg, remember to tell them that it is cutting out after starting from cold. They'll then be able to give specific attention to curing that problem.

What mileage was it last serviced at, and when? What year is the car?

Do you have an owners manual. If not, search on this forum as there is one downloadable from here.
