Clutch Noise Help

Post by jonrat »

Having read as many previous posts as I can, Is it possible for someone to clarify what the high pitched squeel is when the clutch is depressed? I.e is that the release bearing or some other bearing?

Usually it'll be the clutch release bearing, yes. It is a thrust bearing that moves the components of the clutch diaphragm to remove the pressure against the flywheel to allow the driven plate to rotate independently and remove the drive to the gearbox. However when the other components of the clutch have worn, or are damaged, they can make a racket too.

It is usual to replace all the items in the clutch i.e. the pressure plate assembly, the driven plate, and the clutch release bearing at the same time. False economy not to.

I just had the exact same problem as you with mine.
In the end it was because the clutch had "gone" and the gearbox nose was smashed.
Mr Clutch gave me the best quote with £430 all in to replace the gearbox nose, and to rplace the clutch.

OK still working on the clutch as such, as can only do it weekends and when its not raining which being near Cardiff is not that often.

The bearing was completely shot and had damaged the clutch folk, fortunately the fly wheel was fine. All bit's replaced, clutch from a motor factors, folk form a main dealer the cheapest. :D

Once done found a leak in the slave cylinder. Three Motor factors quoted £85 for a new one . Main Dealer £20, shows it pays to ask the dealer! :D

Just started bleed the clutch as per the Haynes manual. Did start to get some movement but now nothing and the more I bleed it, it did not improve.

Any tips on the bleeding?

sorry to reply to my own post but,

tips if you replace the slave cylinder 1st compress the spring with a clamp when you bleed.

If the car is jacked up when you try to bleed the clutch make sure the res for the the brake and clutch is over filled as the separate feed for the cluth is much higher than the brakes. On an angle it is almost certain that at the max leval it is lower than the feed.

has anyone worked out a way to service the wishbone ball joint and the brake caliper?
