Probably a stupid and totally blonde question, but how do I know if my car is fitted with an alarm?
Is there anywhere I can look or button to press to activate it? I had to download a manual online for my type of car and followed there brief explenation of setting the alarm but to be honest I didnt really get it. When it was listed on auto trader it stated Alarm, but I was not sure if this was a standard feature of a Y reg 2001 or wether it was listed due to the year and type of car within auto traders descriptions but was optional when boguht new, if that makes sense.
Any advice would be much appreciated

The alarm can only be activated by using the plip remote key. When active there is a flashing light on the front of the hazard warning light switch.
If you only have the standard key (no buttons) and not a remote plip key, you cant activate the alarm.
Thanks again Cheekee -
I did do it at night and didnt see any flashing lights, but now you highlighted where I should look I will hopefully give it a go tonight (if peugeot have done the work today and 'actually' call me to pick up). When it is set, is there a harmless way of triggering the alarm to hear it in action just the once?
I discovered the answer to this one when I dropped my key which then refused to disarm the car! It did reset itself afterwards - Phew!:hyper:
Its a good one to know for when your remote battery dies!
1) Lock the car using the button.
2) Unlock the door using the key (not by pressing the button)
3) The alarm will sound
4) Put the key in the ignition (and possibly turn it, can't remember if you need to do this)
The car will recognise the key and the alarm will disarm.
Very clever.
Theres a lot to discover on these mean little machines eh?
PS
On my 51 plate, the hazard button only flashes when you deadlock the doors after setting the alarm, not when the alarm only is set. I think this changed on later models...
If you have a two button remote, you have a deadlock function. Arm the alarm by pressing the big button then press the smaller button straight away to deadlock the doors. Then the hazard button will flash.

Hi Charlie - Yeah I read in the manual about the deadlocking today. My key has 2 buttons the big one and a smaller one. I will deffo give it a try by locking with the button and then opening with the key. I just want to make sure I know how to switch it off should it ever go off in a public place - oh how embarassing, (I know I now own a 206cc but I am not one for drawing attention to myself:P )
And to make sure I have an alarm, and that it works should I park it in a un-desirable place
Shall let you know how I get on, didnt get my car back tonight, Peugeot called me at 17:30 saying it was ready and that I could collect it, although they know I live 45mins away, so would be shut by the time I got there - so going to be tommorow - I might ask if they want me to pay as fast as they seem to work:Yes: 8 days - takes the P**s:thumbs:
Typical
Good luck with the alarm 'test'. I discovered mine worked by opening the boot without unlocking the doors. Not a good idea at 11pm....

Hi Charlie - yeah the test worked as per your instructions. The light I now see flashes under the white triangle on the big red hazzard light button. Brill - thanks
I wasnt that impressed at first, I thought I could whistle louder.... but when my neighbour came out to see what the fuss about he shrugged his shoulders, waved his arms and went back inside, I think now after the 4th time he knows I have a new car
Hello there, I had a problem finding my alarm for my 206 as well I brought it in november and thought about a month ago I had never heard my alarm go off, So I locked myself in and jumped around, switched on lights opened doors without useing the keys from the inside, I tryed everything to locking the car and lifting up the bonnet and still nothing, After having a looking about under the bonnet about a week ago and found a cable with nothing connected, Ironically My alarm has been STOLEN most likely removed from the car dealership I brought it from, I was`nt Very annouyed to be honest I couldent stop laughing because the fact that my alarm had been removed without me knowing, Anyhow I have brought a bran new alarm and waiting for it to come now.

That is funny.
My alarm worked for a couple of weeks, well I set it while parked places etc and all ok. One day I was sat here and could hear this, well, an alarm. I sat for a few minutes wondering if the neighbours would sort it out, until my friend knocked and told me it was my alarm....
Anyway after setting the alarm it seems to go off after 5-10 minutes so I dont bother with it anymore.....
