Hi,

The other day whilst driving I heard a loudest bang from the boot, having had a good look I have noticed some sort of wire from the roof mechanism has snapped (see photos, one is the left side broken the other is right side fixed).

This mean when putting the roof up or down I have to manually push up the left side of the boot to get the hinge in place to allow the boot to close properly (and shut the beeping up).

Basically do you know if this can be replaced and how easy and at what cost?

Thanks in advance

Hello. I have exactly the same problem as you. My boot started playing up about 4 months ago, and I had to press down on the corners to stop the beeping alarm. The clicks were very satisfying. As cambelt needed replacing, i thought I would book it in for a repair. Just collected by 206 from the dealer. Quote for TWO snapped cables is - wait for it - £734.92!! They really do not want to do the work - very fiddly. As I have the car roof down EVERY time I drive, unless it is absolutely pouring down, I have put the roof down permanently, as their fiddling has resulted in the catches not aligning at all now. Took two of us to sort it out. Hope sunny weather lasts. Wondering whether getting a whole new boot/roof from a breaker's yard would be cheaper. Very unhappy as I adore my car.

Dear all

Quick up date. I went up to Doncaster to french car specialist breakers yard. Purchased scrapped boot lid with cables (took a large 4x4 to carry it home). Stripped it down with a friend. Replaced 2 broken cables feeding to the hook latch. Took us three hours in total. Roof works perfectly. Peugeot would have ripped me off. So all those with beeping roofs etc - do not be phased. If your boot isn't locking, and you track it to a cable, take it slow and logically. Track second hand parts down. I admit my friend was an engineer - but not of cars. If we can do it, you can. Mind you, smug expression wiped off my face when the cat and exhaust fell off on Tuesday......

Well done! Very brave of you but saved yourself a fortune.

Let us know how you get on with the exhaust system...

Try a company called Speedy cables
They will make cables to a pattern (your old cable) I have used them for obsolete stuff and they are not too dear.

Do you have the details of the roof cables. I want to get some new ones fabricated at speedy cables but I don't want to take them out if my car as they are working ok now. Any help appreciated.

No. You would have to send them a sample. They turn them round in about a week.

It looks like the metal ring has broken in half, not the cable.
I am due to repair a broken cable on a customers 206cc and they sourced the cables from a 206cc being broken on ebay.
