Temperature rises when air cond is switched off

Hi,

I was stuck in traffic today in my 206 cc, and when i switched off the air cond (i turned off the fan but left the air cond button on), the temperature rises to over 90 degree celsius (normal temp is 80). Then i switched back on the air cond fan again and the temp goes down. Why is that?

When you put the air-con on the cooling fan comes on.
